I dont like when people dismiss the 3.7 as a performance motor....will it ever stack up to the 5.0 mod for mod...absolutely not....but it makes as much power as the old cobra, mach1, and 3v gt...amd its a very well made motor with a great power band. It gets great mileage...and only weighs 10 to 15lbs more than the EB. Sure, the procharger is freakin expensive, and its not as easy to get power out of like the eb, but its still a great motor in a great car. A couple years ago everybody was praising the 3.7 for beeing a afordable performance car, now its the red headed step child. I didnt buy a gt because its almost 10k more...im a single income dad with 3 kids and a expedition im still paying for...i just couldnt swing it. Even still, i love my v6...its faster than any of the gt cars ive had in the past...and i like the challenge, and i like beeing differnt..since not many guys are going the v6 route with the s550
I certainly wasn't dismissing the motor at all... my dad has a matching ruby v6 in his garage and its a great car. All I'm saying is if your immediately going to slap a supercharger on it for 10k why not just go with the GT and come out on top with warranty. My insurance rate must just be some sort of fluke because everyone I talk to around my age also has been quoted those absurd prices

The pro charger is a little under 6k i believe, and yeah at that point your pretty close to GT land...i plan to do a pro charger some day...but honestly wont be till its payed off. It really comes down to personal preference and what you can afford.

that makes total sense, like me with my GT. I'm sure by the time Im all said and done ill have gt350 money into it, but theres no way I could swing a gt350 payment. I'm already eating ramen and drinking tap water with my GT

ProCharged V6 is the way to go! Above GT horsepower on low boost, for under base GT price tag!

Also, your dad is helping you get a Mustang AND ProCharge it?! Talk about peanut butter and jealous!

I personally feel like the V6 is the perfect engine for the S550's character, it serves as a low displacement engine like a sports car with enough N/A power (although it could use more) to support daily driving with plenty of fun mixed in.

the v6 is good. I had to opt for the v6 because I thought the payment was going to be high as I also got a knew 2016 eplorer for the wife. But when the deal was done they messed up the stang deal. well after all was said and done it came out cheaper than I expected.

When I went Mustang shopping 2 weeks ago, I knew I was getting a V6. Back in 2011 I was overly impressed with my friends 3.7, especially when comparing it to my 2010's 4.0l. I didn't want a GT and I'm not sold on Turbo's. It wasn't necessarily about the money, but about everyday enjoyment and practicality. It just depends on how you drive and how often your able to use the amount of power that's available. With the 3.7 I'm still faster than 85% of the cars on the road.

I agree with Fordguy, that the V6 has been left in the shadows, but just 5 years ago, it was praised as a efficient power monster. I cant stand seeing the V6 getting referred to as a "rental car" on here. I'm also disappointed in Ford by severely limiting the options available for the V6. They tried to set it up for failure, but I'm happy to see there are still strong V6 sales that tells Ford that not all of us are sold on the EB and we're willing to sacrifice having the "premium" interior or performance package to get our V6. (Honestly, the base interior isnt that basic)

Thats some of my backstory. That being said, I am a firm believer in the V6 and will eventually look into procharging my V6. I dont think you can go wrong. Look at it this way - With your insurance quote having a 4k difference between the GT and V6, the procharger pays for itself in the insurance savings. Then you have a head turning sleeper Mustang who can whiz past the big dogs, who pays V6 prices for gas and insurance, all for a price less than a base GT.

Something that I haven't seen brought up is that having a Procharged V6 feels more special than having a stock GT. When people see the intercooler and hear the supercharger whine they are instantly drawn to the car. I have the helical gears and they are pretty quiet. The under hood sound insulation was filtering out most of the whine so I took it off and now it sounds glorious.

I agree and really it all comes down to what you want to do. People always say well why didn't you just buy a GT and the reason is simple...couldn't afford one at the time and I like my car better believe it or not.

I didn't buy the GT because at the time the real price difference was about $10k. That is too much for just a bigger engine, better brakes. and a few cosmetic bits. To upgrade from the base V6 to the 5.0 on a F150 XLT it is < $2k.
