Need some help. So I own a V6 S550 convertible and looking to add exhaust mods, the sound is good but not good enough. I do want a manual, and also looking at a 17 4c but I want it to sound good. Not to loud but between a v8 and v6. Want it to turn heads but not annoying. And no drone. Do I keep the v6 and add exhaust or do I get a 4c manual and can I add exhaust to it to sound better than a v6. I really like grabber blue on the s550. Been thinking at a v8 but not to realistic anymore. Any help is much

You will never make a 4 cylinder sound better than a 6 cylinder. The more cylinders, the better the car sounds.

If you're gonna buy a car for it's sound, buy something with a V-10.

Lots of wants, champagne taste on a beer budget?

All these wants tell me to save some money to buy what you want, not change what you have into what you want.

It took 10 years and about 20k to turn my Inline 6 '80 capri into the V8 race car I WANTED, which I later GAVE AWAY.

Be thankful for what you have.

You can definitely make your V6 sound better, I like the way my car sounds and it doesn't drone or any of that and definitely not as raspy as some of the ones out there.

When I owned my 16 v6 my favorite exhaust i installed was just the roush axle backs. Everything I did to the exhaust after i regreted trying to chase that v8 sound.

The roush alone in my opinion is the best for the v6. I replaced 3 midpipes and made it worse everytime

I would agree with @Linkster1666. If you truly want a GT, leave your V6 alone and start saving for the GT. When I bought my V6 I immediately started looking at all kinds of mods, even knowing that my ultimate end goal was to get into a GT. I was having a difficult time figuring out what to do to make the V6 sound better and after researching here, listening to YouTube videos, etc. I just decided to do a couple inexpensive appearance mods and just leave it alone and save that mod money to put towards a GT. 2.5 years later and I’m now in a GT that I built exactly the way I want it. Just some food for thought.

I had a S197 v6 and I thought it sounded "good enough" with the stock exhaust. I never did any exhaust mods because every exhaust I ever heard for the V6 sounded like a kazoo under WFO acceleration. You're never going to make a V6 sound as good as a V8, but at least the V6 doesn't need fake engine noise pumped into the cabin.
As has been said, if you really value the engine noise, save up for a GT.

I got a Borla Stinger S-type cat back exhaust system for my 2015 V6. The install was very quick and the sound is amazing. I’ve spent the last 8 years thinking about getting one, watched probably 100 videos with various exhaust systems and setups. I didn’t have the money though so that was the main reason I couldn’t pull the trigger.

Finally I was able to and this system while not cheap, is the best for what I’m looking for. It’s loud at times and quiet enough so I don’t piss the neighbors off lol. There’s zero drone and at highway speeds it sounds stock unless I get on it. Inside the cabin it’s definitely noticeable without being so loud that I can’t hear myself think or need to blast the sound system to hear music.Everyone whose heard it says it really sounds great and was worth the money. I think the resonator is really what helps give it a deeper tone and eliminates the drone. Plus it’s legal in 49 states (CA has laws regarding sound so it’s not legal there).

Excellent choice! Wish I had gone that route. Seven try’s later I have a GT cat back w Borla Type S mufflers. No drone and sounds about as good as it can for a V6. Sounds like a V6 during light acceleration, but get on it and can’t really tell…sounds awesome when making a brisk freeway entrance.

It’s been a few weeks now and the sound just gets better and better. It will sound like a V6 in drive, but once in sport it transforms into something else. I can’t say it sounds like a V8 but it’s as close as I’ll get without buying one. It sounds really badass without the loud bangs or pops. More snap and crackle lol. Sounds ALMOST more European.

Very happy with my Roush axle backs. Been on for several years now. Worlds better than the stock anemic looking and sounding exhaust. Soothing trombone like sound.
