By the way When I picked up my car I got 2 fobs and an extra blade key.

I'm not going to lie the first time I was trying my battery was dea so I had to learn how it do it and I actually thought that was the key slot where u just press and unlocks when that didn't work I was trying to turn the key while going through that little hole:headbonk:

Well, I tried again. There is no way mine will come off just shoving up on the key and trying to slide the cover back. I'll stop by the dealer sometime and see if they can do it.
I am not an unmechanical incompetant.Except maybe on this.

Using your fingernail, push the button on the back of the fob down, and, once it's down, pull that button away from the rest of the fob. The back of the fob will detach. Then, stick your fingernail underneath the key (the side that the fatter end of the key's head is on) and pull it outward, away from the rest of the fob along the long-axis of the key blade.

And hoping you'd never need it seems kind of silly; I've had at least a dozen dead batteries in my life, and have had to give people a jump... Jesus, I dunno, a hundred times probably?
Thanks guys I can now open. Sure was dirty inside.

just tried removing the door cover and it was as easy as the video looked. but when i tried using the key to open the door, the lock wouldn't budge... i was turning clockwise.

it moved a little but it was hard. didn't try using any more force, i didnt wanna break it. seems like it's just needs some lubricant in there. the key almost got stuck in it as well. probably got a lot of gunk inside.

unless im turning it the wrong direction? has anyone been successful in opening the door with the physical key?

ok nevermind. i used the glove box key to get a little bit more leverage on the key, and the lock cylinder was able to lock unlock. i believe it was clockwise to unlock, ccw for lock. yes the glove box key and blade key are identical

what a total pain in the rear
my battery died, had hardly used her for a few weeks, had the dashcam hard wired for 48 hour security, and the weather changed.
Had my mate come round and help me get the cap off, it seems that you don't put the key in as far as it will go, as we felt more movement with the key just a bit in. was easy to clip back on.
Also was surprised to see that my memory settings and radio settings were still there but the climate had changed and a few other settings like mph from kph.
Also nearly wet myself when the Sync 3 come back on and NO Sound. took twice to turn the engine off then on again for the sound to return. the tire pressures are not reading as I would guess needs to be driven to work out the pressures.
its not like my old S197 :headbonk:

The key inside the key fob is a really bad design. A friend of mine has a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck and the blade key folds into the key fob. To open the key blade out you just push a button on the key fob and it pops out like a switch blade knife. Why didn't Ford do that on the Mustang key fob? I guest the Ford engineers don't talk to one another and share ideas. The F-150 engineers clearly had the better design.

Yep, even the Nissan keys are better, and it's been around for around 10 years

I will try again. It's not exactly a straight forward operation. Why not an actual key slot that didnt require dicking around like this? In bad weather, dark, cold,Etc this would be a pia.
Because having a exposed key slot is so 1990, and aerodynamics, you that little piece to slice through the air like a hot butter knife.

the problem is not so much the key, its neat and tidy having it in the remote control, the problem is getting purchase on the key to turn it to unlock and then lock the car while the battery is dead
But the most stupid thing is that cap, instead of a slot for the key to lever it off, why not a little screw, or a clip or a little catch.
Lucky for me, I had a fellow Mustang mate who was close by and happy to come out in the rain and help me
but if someone was on their own, would they try to wedge a screwdriver between the cap and the bodywork, so easy to scratch the bodywork.
I understand it has to be a tight fit, but a little screw which no one would see would have made life a lot easier :frusty:

Man what a bad design! I just went to auto start my car and nothing. Its completely dead and no way to get in the car. I had to read the manual to find the article on using the key blade. I worked on it for about a 1/2 hour, but it didn't budge. It doesn't help its night time and its 15 degrees out either. I thought maybe it was frozen so I tried to heat it up with a hair dryer, but no dice. I gave up and called road side assistance. Hopefully it won't take all night. No idea why my car died as I've only had it a few months and I'm sure I didn't leave the lights on. Maybe I left a map light on or something, but I wouldn't think that would drain the battery in 12 hours or so.

To follow up on my experience trying to remove the cover;I went to the dealer because I knew that it was not going to come off without breaking. The salesman pried it off and of course it broke. Not his fault. They ordered one and then sent it out for painting. It is at least 2 shades of orange off and has some trash in the paint.Considering the size of the cover the painter sucked big time.
I try not to think about it.The problem is if I ever actually need to remove the cover I fully expect it to break.
