Are the JBL 629/638 the only speakers that come with a bracket to fit our panels, or are there other speakers that would work as well? (Without having to trip the OEM speakers apart for the housing.)
I'm almost certain that Infinity speakers come with the same adapter rings as the JBLs; same company.

For those of you with the 9 and 12 speaker systems who have replaced your 6.5" door speakers with coaxials:

Are the signals being fed to the stock 6.5" door speakers full-range, or are there low-pass filters on the factory amp outputs connected to these? I've read the comments about the improved mids and highs from replacing the stock rear full-range speakers with something better (JBLs, Alpines, etc.). Can you hear the tweeters in the new door coaxials working to a similar degree?

I want to install matching coaxial 6.5" speakers in the front doors and rear deck, but will consider another option for the front if the coaxial tweeters in the replacement door speakers won't be doing any work. Thanks for your help!

I have the 9 speaker, coax in the doors is not possible, the signal is split 3 ways in the door, if you use the base signal you lose all mid and if you use the mid you lose all base

Precision power makes an awesome 3 piece component set for not much $$ I've been running them for 6 months now and zero complaints, I'm running the oem tweeter as I have zero idea how to get it out lol

I fed the PPI crossover the mid signal and hooked the mid driver up to it, and am running the woofer off just the stock woofer wires, sounds good, one day I'll go 4 channel and actually hook them both up to the x over

Thanks for clarifying this. The PPI components you have sound interesting. Putting higher quality separates up front that are matched to the upgraded coaxials I want to put in the rear seems like a good plan.

I'm running PPI components up front and PPI coax in the rear, for the only upgrade I've done to the audio so far, I'm very pleased with the sound quality and being 3 ohm they have boosted volume a bit also

The tweeter is pretty easy to get to you just need to pull out the pillars on both side and pop it out. When I was working on a different mod the tweeter came off the pillar immediately. Would replacing the tweeter make that much of a difference after swapping the 6.5"s anyway (I have the base stereo)?.

With a 401A package would you recommend the the 638 over the 629 for the rear deck? Or would the bass from the sub already included be enough? Trying to determine what would be the best setup. 638s in the rear and doors? Or 629s? Or maybe a pair of 638s in the back and 629s up front?

Honestly I don't think it will matter that much - the 629 / 638 are similar in specs. Both should sound significantly better than stock so it all depends on if you want that extra tweeter or not.

JBL 629 Rear Deck Install

I installed the 629s yesterday and took a few pics.

Here is a comparison of my weak 400A speakers compared to the JBLs. In the first pic you can see how the speaker holes line up with the JBL bracket:

In trunk underneath package tray. There is a convenient smooth slot in the deck to route your wires. I just used a short length of 16 ga. speaker wire:

Through back window:

Back deck showing speakers, wiring, and some Fatmat patches I put on the deck. I cut off the factory connector and soldered to the new wiring:

Things I noticed:
- The one larger tab of the bracket does bend up a bit because it doesn't completely fit into the speaker indentation. Doesn't look like an issue and the mount is solid
- Volume is a lot louder from the back now, probably because the JBLs are 3 ohm.
- Also sounds quite a bit better and fuller. No crazy bass coming from them, but I wasn't expecting it either as the factory amp pulls bass from the weak factory speakers. Midrange and uppers are much better though.
- I still plan on adding a sub in the trunk when the JL stealthboxes come out. For me, it might be good enough with a sub and upgraded front speakers, even though I have a JBL MS-8 sitting new in box.

Awww yisss!!!

Just need my MS-8 and pair of Hertz HDP4 amps to show up. I still don't think those Mille tweeters will mount in the stock location though.
That is a 3 way component set right, and what model number?

Did you get it installed, how does it sound?

Yeah, they are.

I have not got them installed yet. The guy I was going to buy the amps from has kind of been dicking me around, so I am going a different route for amplification.

I think I will order a Zed Audio Leviathan III to power these.

Found out the Zed amps are made to order, with usually around a month of lead time. Too impatient for that.

Luckily, dude finally got back to me on the Hertz amps.

2x Hertz HDP4 are on their way to me. I can finally plan out an install date.

I'm thinking MSRP is like $1299, I found a site selling it for $999.

No one has any on hand though.
