Anyone still using MB Quart components?

I have 2 component sets of the original "Made in Germany", original MB Quarts in my Cobra. IIRC, I think MBQ was bought or acquired by another company a few years back, so I'm not sure of their quality today.

The set up in my Cobra, which was done nearly 15 yrs ago (which I may try to replicate in my EB):

Amp: PPI 5440 (Precision Power)
Sub: Kicker 10" SoloBaric (original round design) in correct size enclosure
Front Speakers: MB Quart RCE268 component set (6x8's w/ tweets/x-overs)
Rear Speaker: MB Quart (can't remember model #) Reference Series 5 1/4" component
Wiring/Cables: all Monster power cables, speaker wires and RCA's
Head Unit: Nakamichi CD400

All components in that car are hidden - the only thing anyone sees when looking in the interior is the Nak head unit (I like to retain stock appearance). Obviously, I wouldn't use similar head unit in my EB due to SYNC3 equipment, but I may do same components as above - the sound has always been incredible and I've always received tons of compliments.

MB Quart used to be the gold standard for car audio in the 90's. I bought a more recent set for my old car and they were just okay. About on par with entry level units from the likes of Sony and other mainstream manufacturers. I only have experience with that one set so can't really comment more.

MB Quart joined Maxxsonics which is an American based company.

I finally rented a V6 Mustang today and have to say the stock stereo is not as bad as I expected. I'm thinking a sub for the rear and have the front run through an EQ and some decent separates with a small amp and it will be a huge improvement. Will probably leave the rears alone as I could not hear them much anyway and that's fine. That's how I did my last F-150 extra cab. The stock stereo had a lot more volume output than I expected, And once I tweaked the audio settings from the previous renter who maxxed everything, it was much better.

OK, now I have my coupe and my opinion is different. The coupe sounds way better than the convertible. I was amazed how much bass the stock front speakers have. Typically, aftermarket speakers don't have this much bass and I'm betting any replacement would reduce bass output. Anybody can comment to that? And I was so puzzled about why people were changing out the rear speakers and leaving the fronts. Seemed so reverse to me. NOW I understand, the backs do very little have no output at all. Are they even the same speakers as the front? I think the stock system is good enough for me to do this in stages with a sub first, and then amplified separates up front. Will reduce the bass and leave stockers in the rear, but fade to front a bit to quiet them. Now I could do new separates up front, but I have new 6 1/2" Alpine speakers I could use up front and that may be enough. I was more than satisfied with these in a 5x7 size in my F-150. Hmmm.

I like your choices as I initially wanted to use the same setup. ( I too have a vert-15 model). After searching and not find much of anything for a vert, I am leaning towards Hertz HKS 163 setup. A component 3-way for the front end. Still thinking about replacing the center with a Polk Audio 3.5. I know most say don't bother, but I like my center speaker for fill and want to bring out the highs a little cleaner. I like the shaker pro system, plenty of power, just want the crisp-ness and highs to sound a little cleaner. Cannot seem to find a how-to on removing the A-pillar covers on a vert though. The search continues.....
**UPDATE** My shipment of Hertz just came in! AWESOME! Was surprised by how large the box was, lol. Very well packaged. All items serialized. Not a knock off in the least. Cannot wait to install them! Did I mention I got them BRAND NEW for $560.00??? That was with shipping, lol. And to clarify, it was the HSK 163 3 way component set, not the cheaper ESK ones. Cannot wait to rock my vert with these!

Through eBay. I contacted him last night and asked for a way for people to contact him if they don't have an eBay account. As soon as he responds, I will post it up on here.

Heard back from him this morning. He said anyone interested just email him at: [email protected]

Tweeters went in very smooth and noticeably cleaner sound. Mids went in and was able to use factory bracket. (major bonus!) Woofer will have to be direct to door. Not gonna hack up factory bracket because they will go back in when I sell the car. No issues with window clearance either. Window was down and speakers did not touch. (also bonus!). Taking a break before finishing up install. Thought I would pass on to y'all!

How are you wiring them, signal-wise? Using the supplied crossover, or something else?

Well to be honest, I wanted to do a straight swap of the factory speakers. Was told I could with these. Here's my problem, they really need an amp to get the most of out them and I don't plan on adding one. So I guess I need to find them a good home. So If you know anyone who might be interested, have them get a hold of me. Hate to do it, these are truly amazing sound, they do come with two crossovers, adapters, clips, screws absolutely everything. My loss will be somebody's gain.

Do they sound better than factory as they are currently installed? If so, why take them out just to go back to the garbage factory sound and have someone else enjoy them?

I love quality sound. The new speakers need power to be able to produce the bass the factory system currently does. (albeit not the cleanest bass, but it is there). The new tweeters rock! If I can't sell the speakers, I will keep them. They sound amazing compared to the factory ones. Like night and day, seriously. Just not enough power to truly make these speakers "sing". Wife won't let me invest the money needed to complete it properly. I thought someone who is looking for an amazing set and doesn't want to spend, 600,700 or more could benefit. Had I known then what I know now (thanks to a shifty salesman), I would have just invested in quality tweeters and been a happy little camper. But in answer to your question, they do sound good, but are under-powered and don't produce the quality they are capable of. The factory crud, believe it or not, produces the bass better based on the current power being provided by the factory amp.

I understand your situation and it's unfortunate that you have to get rid of them... best of luck!
