I love quality sound. The new speakers need power to be able to produce the bass the factory system currently does. (albeit not the cleanest bass, but it is there). The new tweeters rock! If I can't sell the speakers, I will keep them. They sound amazing compared to the factory ones. Like night and day, seriously. Just not enough power to truly make these speakers "sing". Wife won't let me invest the money needed to complete it properly. I thought someone who is looking for an amazing set and doesn't want to spend, 600,700 or more could benefit. Had I known then what I know now (thanks to a shifty salesman), I would have just invested in quality tweeters and been a happy little camper. But in answer to your question, they do sound good, but are under-powered and don't produce the quality they are capable of. The factory crud, believe it or not, produces the bass better based on the current power being provided by the factory amp.
Fair point. Have you considered keeping them and adding a sub/amp to fill in for the lack of bass? A single 8 and a small amp would be perfect. Not too boomy and loud, but plenty of bass fill and won't kill the bank.

Speaking of tweeters...
You say the ones you have are awesome. Do they match up resistance wise with the factory 400a tweeters?
I think the 6.5 inches in the doors are alright, and the 3.5s OK, but the tweeters are the weak point for sure. Do you have a part number for just the tweeters if one were interested in getting them alone?

I haven't seen the HSK tweeters for sale by themselves, always as part of the HSK set. You can, however, get the MLK tweeters separately, if you are willing to spend $400 :eyebulge:

There are plenty of good alternative tweeters available... these seem to be pretty popular;

Thanks for the link. Those do look nice and are highly reviewed.
Another question though, for those of us with 400a stereos, what is the factory tweeter ohm rating? I already took off my door panels and found that my 3.5 mid range speaker is a 8 ohm. This makes me wonder if the tweeter is too. I remember seeing a wiring diagram somewhere here that showed the 3.5 and tweeter were wired together. If both are 8 ohm, then the factory amp is likely seeing a 4 ohm load. If this is the case can we just swap a potentially 8 ohm tweeter with a 4 ohm one and maintain resistance within the factory amps safe operating range?

Sometimes I wish this car just had a simple high quality 4 speaker setup. Would make upgrading much easier.

Not necessarily, it depends on if they are wired in series, parallel or series-parallel.

Don't need to depend on Crutchfield for speaker sizes.

Walk into any respectable car audio shop, like Sound Sensations in Marietta, GA where I make myself useful, and they'll tell you what size speakers you have and cut you a better deal than you're going to get at Crutchfield. I assure you, by now, we've done a number of 2015+ Mustangs plus we have access to info about cars that negate Crutchfield's consumer-friendly online fitment system. Very few speakers won't fit in a Mustang. Crutchfield is just figuring out right now which will fit depth wise with aftermarket speaker adapters, which are flimsy junk anyway. I've put speakers in cars that Crutchfield said wouldn't fit a billion times.

If you want to use the OEM amplifier, you need to look for the most EFFICIENT speakers you can find. 90 dB efficiency rating (or higher) is your target. Not that much power coming from ANY OEM amplifier in almost any car and you need efficiency.

The Shaker 12 system isn't great, too, so don't worry. It's 100% boomy bass which is not something an SQ guy like me has any tolerance for, so I'll be upgrading.

Almost any 6.5" 2 or 3 way component set will work, but you may have to fabricate speaker baffles (often referred to as adapters). Don't bother changing the back speakers, you won't really notice the change that much. Spend your money on the front. But if you're using the OEM amplifier, I wouldn't go any higher than a brand's entry-level speakers because anything more is going to need more power to shine.

Here is a link to the thread with the wiring layout... is shows the tweeter and mid wired in parallel, so it's a safe bet that each speaker is 8ohms.

If your plan is not going to include adding an amp for the front stage, then you can find good 8ohm speakers at Parts-Express and Madisound

Awesome info once again mumbles. Thanks.

I'd like to try just getting slightly better tweeters and 3.5 mids that the work with the factory amp. So looks like I'll be showing for 8 ohm speakers, damn. They are not as common.

I'll have to search around on that second link you sent for some 8 ohm sets that might fit.

Make sure you aren't searching under autosound which will be mostly 4ohms. I narrowed things down a bit for you... 3.5 -4" 8 ohm mids:

Tang Band and Dayton make good stuff and Vifa/Tymphany is better, but a bit more costly :)

This is great info and I agree 100%. I also am taking something here into consideration. Maybe I don't need to replace the rear speakers at all. Even if I xover and amp them with a 5 channel amp, which is my plan. They won't make that much of a difference. What I would like to know is which separates (2-way, base) will fit easily, as I think I'm going to do the install myself, and not break the bank. Something under $200. That should be enough for something decent, no?

Can the amp that currently runs the front speakers be upgraded? If that can be beefed up, then these speakers will rock!

If you mean replacing components in the factory amp, I'm not sure that would be worthwhile since most factory amps only put out 10 - 20 watts per channel. You could buy a nice multi-channel amp for the same price as someone would charge you to upgrade... if you could find someone to do so. Of course then you have to run wires, etc...

Can anyone please tell me which amp is good for both bass and inside speakers, we all know this car have limited back space and also which speakers are better PPI or JBL's, as you can see everyone is mostly talking about these. Thanks
