Was at a pretty famous Mustang pro shop today getting the Mishimoto coolant tank installed and getting Dyno'd.

I spoke with the owner about the Roush limiting tune. Mine cut off at 6th gear and 6000PRM. He said they write their own tunes that get me 60rwhp more. I explained I didn't want to lose my warranty. He said it's impossible for anyone to tell what tune is installed. He said absolutely no way anyone could tell.

Is this correct? I'd love more HP.

That's wrong. I would stay away from that shop.

They're a certified Roush dealer and the #1 Mustang shop in my state.

That actually brings up a good question. How can a dealer tell if the tune is from Roush or not? Do they have a Signature on them or an ID number?

Does ROUSH get access to Official tunning software so their flashes are similar to using a ProCal from Ford?

Coming from 8+ years employed at SCT and now a current dealer of SCT and HP tuners, they are full of it. If you can write a file to the PCM, then someone can pull the file and see what it is. The only way around it is to "lock" the PCM, which means the file cannot be read, but the PCM cannot be written either except by the person who locked it, however this would probably be a red flag for "warranty" work should they try to pull the file and see it's locked. Or try to write a new file into the PCM and see it's locked.

Point is that if you want to change the tune, there is a good chance that they CAN see what was changed if they want to. On that same breath, there is little chance they will WANT to see that, unless you have a warranty issue such as a blown motor or related.

To go into any more detail, were they talking about SCT or HP tuners?

You can pull a tune and compare it to a factory file. Either from ford or roush. They will see exactly what was changed.

They were talking about their proprietary tune vs. Roush tune. The guy said it's impossible to tell the Tune without special equipment.

Is he willing to put in that in writing and indemnify you if you have a warranty denied due to the tune?

Bet he won't.

There is data about the number of times the PCM is flashed. That is why even putting the stock tune back isn't necessarily gonig to save you.

Yeah, I'm gonna err on the safe side and not mess with it. Breaking my warranty isn't worth going faster.

Dealers don’t have devices on hand that will read the pcm. If you don’t do something stupid like change the calibration ID there should be nothing for the dealer to see.

??? On another thread, you have been saying how much you love your Roush equipped Mustang. Now you aren't satisfied? LOL. I don't understand what you mean when you say it "cut off at 6th gear and 6000 rpm." That shouldn't happen at all unless the traction control or advance track kicked in.

No, no, I'm not saying that at all. I adore my car. I was just talking about another shops proprietary tune and the owner saying it can't be detected.

For some reason on a Dyno it cuts off at around 6200rpm. And I think 7th gear. That will limit the HP is shows. I called my contact at the dealer and he said they just Dyno'd their car and got exactly the same numbers. Then he told me about a tune update that is supposed to change the Dyno numbers.

But no, my car is the schizzle, man.
