Hi all,
First post. 😬

I just bought my first Mustang a few weeks ago - 2019 GT Premium convertible, 72k, and it has the 10-speed automatic in it.

This morning I started to go up a hill on my road and it was like the car lost power without really losing power, if that makes any sense. It wouldn’t shift gears or move (like I was suddenly in neutral), but there was also no grinding noise or anything. I put my hazard lights on and put it in reverse (idk if it even worked) and just kind of rolled backwards into my neighbor’s driveway. After I cut the car off and then started it back up again, it was fine.

It’s still under the 30 day warranty from the dealership I got it from and I made an appointment for Thursday morning for their service department to look at it just in case.

My dad suggested disconnecting the battery for a bit and said a bunch of technical-sounding words to me about what it might be other than my transmission actually failing, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what the outcome was.

I haven’t bought a used vehicle in over a decade and I love this car SO much, but I’m just like ā€œoh PLEASEEEEE don’t be a major issue.ā€ 😩

Up hill and trans was cold? Sounds like low fluid.

Ughhhhh….not something you want to hear as a possibility when this car was supposed to have been serviced and inspected a month ago. Thanks!

Was it raining? Or driving over loose or let leaves?
Any chance it was the TC system kicking in?

Not the first two — would the TC system do that though if I had hit that button and not noticed it? I don’t remember that ever happening with my other car, but the TC button was also on the opposite side of the steering wheel.

I drove it last night as well and it hasn’t happened again yet. When you mentioned the TC system, I wondered at first if I had knocked that or the drive mode knob by accident when I was messing with my purse just before I put the car into reverse to back out of my carport. šŸ¤” My driveway is downhill on the way out, and then immediately uphill either way once you get on the road.

No indicators on the dash, no warning lights, no weird noises or grinding, no burning smell, and no obvious leaks.

The TC system would not have caused that. It will chop the throttle and when the tires stop spinning it will open it again, so it would feel like a bog not a shut down.

Update - can’t find the cause as of right now and it hasn’t done it again. Fluid was good, no leaks; no codes thrown or computer issues found.

Maybe I should’ve named her Christine instead of Sally? 😶
