TPMS Sensor Learning Curve.

This may have been posted before, but I figured since I couldn't find it, and there was nothing regarding it in Google that linked this forum, it seemed pertinent for me to post for anyone that may find themselves needing it.

Did you know we don't need the TPMS Tool for our cars?

Our TPMS are self learning.

You don't even need to do that crazy sequence CJ posted to get it into learning mode.

Push Start button.

Flip/push the Emergency Flasher toggle until the car honks.

You're in learning mode!

(The screen will pop up telling you to Train Left Front)

Now go and let some air out.

Pause.

Let a little more out.

Repeat this until it honks.

Now do this for each wheel.

And voila, you've trained your TPMS sensors without a tool or crazy sequence of Start/Brake/Start!

Go forth and save money.

When I put my new tires on, the tpms recalibrated itself after about 2 miles of driving. But if your tpms sensors are in sleep mode, you may have to go through that process.

They'll need to be re-taught if the wheels get rotated as well.


There's a few scenarios this comes into play - it's more of a "if you need to teach them, this is how to do it without buying a tool/the service."

so all u did was put them in the new tires and wheels and drive and it relearned itself?

Hmm.....I put brand new wheels and tires with new TPMS for the 15s and had to do the relearn process. Funny thing was, I would put the tool on the tire right on the side where the valve stem was and it would not pick up. Had to do it directly across the entire tire.

has anyone actually done this retrain process to verify if it works? Im looking at a set of 19's, wheels/tires with sensors that came off a premium & would be great to know if it works.. Thanks

I did. Lol. It's why I posted the thread.

I've done it twice now and it's worked flawlessly.
