So I've just ordered some touch up paint and clear coat from Ford to sort some very minor paint chips on my car. However I've never applied anything like this before. What's the best way to apply to get as seamless finish as possible? TIA

if its just stone chips you want a very small brush and some thinners.

Thanks. What do you mean by thinners and how would I use them?

you want to thin the paint out in a small tub so its not as thick then use the brush to very carefully fill only the chip/hole don't try to fill it all to flush in the first hit do it lots of thin layers and build it up to the same level as the normal paint. its slow delicate work but saves you having to do anything silly like blending in or having to redo lacquer etc if you do it right then by time you're done it'll be almost unnoticeable unless your minor chips are actually more major chips :)
depending on how thick the paint is you may need to do some light sanding just to shallow out the chip but i don't think the paint on these cars is particularly thick so you may get away without it.
have a play with youtube i'm sure you'll find some good video examples.

Hinch is totally right:thumbsup: - a little at a time, slowly building up layers -

time and a lot of patience is required

It is SO tempting just to get a "blob" on the brush and plop it into the stone chip - DON'T do it!

...you will spent twice the time trying to correct it!:clock::crazy:

Watched this a couple of days ago. Mine is quite battle scarred but not sure if I'm brave enough to take sandpaper to it yet!

The solid paint is much easier and comes out better than a metallic when touching in

As hinch says...get on youtube, i have a small chip in my door along with a touch up kit. After seeing how involved it was to do a thorough job, i’ve left it! But still needs to be done, one of those things that needs time and patience to get the best results.

I've done it a few times but for the bother i now leave panels until they're proper pebble dashed then just strip and spray the whole thing life is much easier :)

I have the ruby red pen but still need the clearcoat to top it off. Patience is key in paint correction lads.

Guys use Drcolourchip. It’s amazing stuff. Watch the videos and look at the reviews. I was sceptical but it’s so much better then a blob of touch up paint. No one can even find the chips on mine unless I point them out.

One of those products which really lives up to the hype!

Mine is magnetic and the colour match was spot on. Even the amount of flake in the paint matched where most touch ups just look like a block of solid colour.

Have you asked? Mine didn’t come up on the site but the colour code was listed against other fords. An email to them was replied to the same day confirming that they could supply it.

apart from they don't do my colour
