What torque wrenches do you all use? I'm using this guy. Just noticed it's missing a screw in the ratchet head. It's pretty old and the torque spec indentations are somewhat vague. I use it for lugs, brakes, hubs, oil filter and other random DIY maintenance. Not rebuilding engines or swapping heads. Any trusted brands or models any of you gear heads can throw my way? I'd like to invest in both a ½" and a ⅜ drive wrench.

Split beams are rather expensive and accomplish virtually the same thing as the click ones. If you are willing to spend the money, get a snap on digital torque wrench. Lifetime warranty and trusted by almost everyone.

If you don't want to pay the Snap-On premium you can get a CDI. CDI is owned by Snap-On, and they make Snap-On's branded torque wrenches. The CDI's are really nice stuff. That being said they are not cheap either. They are made in the US and come with a test certificate. I just bought a 1/2" drive CDI that goes up to 250 foot lbs for $194.00. They are available from Mr. Bezos.

I do like the idea of a digital. It would also be nice to be able to calibrate or test it every year or three.

The digital torque wrenches are also way more accurate. Some within the 2% mark!

i just bought a new snap on 1/2" last year after my 30+ year old craftsman torque wrench died. I've been a slave to snap on for years :cwl: expensive but you get what you pay for.

Managed a very large group of employees @ a LARGE airplane manufacture that tested and calibrated torque wrenches and other measurement tools every 40 hour work cycle to be within FAA/DoD/Mil specs. Tool contracts for machinists and assembly mechanics were awarded every 36 months. Contracts were open to all tool companies and every 36 months Snap-On was awarded multi million $$$ contracts for torque wrenches. Most durable and accurate. :like:

Tony- Do not use or buy a Harbor Freight job. They suck. I can’t help you on recommendations, but I can save you some agida.

I have a couple CDI's that I really like. I recommend these as a quality tool that doesn't break the bank. They certainly aren't cheap, but one broken item due to a bad torque wrench will cost way more.

I don't know if this is true or not important. I was told to store the click style unloaded, meaning at their zero set point.

Then mine in way off if so. It's been sitting for 10yrs.
