I am very new to performance cars, when I get my mustang here within a few weeks, it will be my first real performance car. I made up my mind on what I want, a base GTPP in ruby red. But I am unsure if I will want to change the tires from the factory, for more grip. Would this be something to do? Does anyone have any recommendations on what to pick up if I decide to swap? Is it even worth it for someone who won't be tracking their car?

Nobody can tell you to replace your wheels and tires. Just read other members' threads and decide if you want to do that.

Hey Raoh, how you doing mate. You will probably be exceedingly happy with just the base GT + PP. That's exactly what I have (plus ESP) and I do not believe that you will exceed the limits of the package on public roads unless you drive recklessly.

If you want to track it with competitive times, you might want to do something with the rubber at that point.

Personally, I'm not even feeling compelled to upgrade the exhaust or shifter (before receiving the car I was expecting that I would want to do both). I'm finding that what's there is pretty damned good.

Your mileage may vary, but I would suggest that you just drive your stock car for a while and bask in it's glory before starting to customize. Then with more exposure to the car you can make better decisions on what - if anything - you might want to change out.

Most people change tires and wheels just to have something that looks different. When changing for looks wider typically looks better. If you were tracking your car tires are in fact the number one item that will give you better lap times; not springs, not shocks, not sway bars. Real slicks can knock seconds off the lap time compared to stock tires. If you are staying with the stock wheels I would suggest you just stay with the stock tires till they are worn out in two years you might have totally different priorities.

do you never drive your car?????? I literally just replaced my rear tires at just over 9000 miles. The fronts are still at about half tread or more. Technically my left rear still had ok tread but my right rear was basically a slick. Apparently I take a lot of left turns :usa: America! lol

The P Zeros that come on the PP car have more capability than I would guess 90% of the folks that buy a Mustang. They may not be the best but they are still a very capable tire. The most common knock on them is they wear out very quickly.

If you live somewhere that it gets cold (below 40F) and/or snows they are absolutely unacceptable, but that will be the case with any summer tire and you will need either winter tires or all season tires.

For me I am going to use up the P Zeros before even thinking about something different. I did get a second set of wheels and winter tires though.

If you're going to add power then the pzero will be quickly overpowered. If you're keeping the car stock, then plenty of grip for non track use.
