Time slip explanation

If you are actively racing someone and not just testing for yourself, all that matters is the " 1st left " or "1st right" on the slip. Reaction time and 60 foot are the name of the game for heads up and bracket racing, get outta the hole fast, hard and consistent!

It seems complicated at first, but it gets easy to understand after you think about it.
If you waited to take off till you saw green, you are going to be going home very early if you are in eliminations. Keep launching earlier and earlier during time trials until you get a red light, then try to stay as close to that as you can without seeing red. You should be done experimenting by the time eliminations have begun. Its all good, but that is the real fun part of the whole experience.
While all this is going on, you should be at the same rpm, same depth in the beams, same tire and engine temp, same air pressure in the tires, etc. etc. Now you can see how much concentration is involved to get it right at the starting line. This is where the race is won 99% of the time, not at the finish line.

When I used to drag race, I regularly saw a guy at the Ashcroft track, who had a wildly quick street bike. But no skill at all, so his 8.7 to 8.8 second bike meant nothing, because his reaction time was a glacial pace. What he wouldn't ever do is practice so he got a good reaction time. So others on a 10 second bike beat him easily. Practicing how to launch is so important, but many people don't, and just try to rely on pure HP. Its easier to strip a little weight from the car, and practice the launch, than to just keep asking for more from the engine. Or just buy a Porsche 911 4S, and use its launch control and awd that makes a bad driver look good. Only 450 hp and still runs 0-60 MPH in 3.3 seconds with almost anyone driving. Yes I used to have one, no talent required.
