About 4-5 years ago, i sold my 2016 GT/CS convertible. I loved the car, but sold it only to reduce expenses for future retirement.

I’m fully retired now, and have found I can afford to get another convertible. I’m not interested in getting a new one (too much tech), so I’ve been looking at used ones. I found a 2017 GT/CS Convertible with ~30k miles, but I’m a bit concerned about the age/wear of the convertible top.

I’ve also been looking at newer ‘verts, but am not sure about the reliability/longevity of the digital dash, along with the 10R80. I was always told the 6R80 was bullet-proof, and that the 10R80 has some problems. i also heard the MT82 was still troublesome.

So, would you recommend I stay with the 2015-2017s, or look for a newer one?

2019 Mustang Convertible here - 30K miles & no issues with the top or any of the digital instruments - knock on wood, it's been a pretty solid car.

I hope that helps in your quest!

Best,

The Ford 6-speed automatics also have their share of troubles. But I'd prefer the 6-speed to the 10 speed. I've driven the 10 speed and I hated it. I wouldn't want to own one.

As for the convertible top there are products to recondition the top. I have some spots on mine that have faded. I need to try some of these things to see if they'll work. I've been told by a local convertible top repair shop owner that they work pretty well.

Check out the Renovo products. There are others but the convertible top repair shop owner recommends this one.

Mine is from 2017 and spent a lot of time outside at the previous owner's; the hood is still perfect.

I have a 2019 manual GT convertible. I am now retired. The car sat outside every work day for 3 years. I treated the top with 303 Fabric Guard after a good scrubbing with the 303 cleaner -- twice a year when it was sitting out and annually now that I have retired. The top is still in great shape. I hand wash the car and it has only gone through an automatic wash 2 or 3 times in its life. When I wash the car, I "flood" the top, then squeegee the water off -- no soap or detergents -- to keep from removing the waterproofing as much as possible.
I have about 75,000 miles on my Mustang. I do not track it or power shift it. I had the transmission lube replaced at about 50,000 miles just for "insurance." I have had no transmission issues whatsoever.

Thanx for the replies. I was looking at a ‘22, but it has the 10R80; I crossed that off the list.

If I choose the 6R80, I’ll stick with the ‘16 & ‘17 model years. Maybe I’ll try the MT82 for a change of pace. My 2008 had the manual, and I really liked that transmission.

My 21 GT/CS is not a convertible but it’s a 10 speed transmission. All the negatives I’ve heard on this forum about the 10 speed, I have not experienced any of them. I am retired as well 65 years old I am probably not as aggressive of a driver like others. This transmission is probably one of the smoothest I have ever had. Whether it’s up shifts or downshifts.
