Not to hijack but what kit did you purchase? I am thinking about trying this as well!

I'm probably going to just go to Ford and get their touch up paint, just did a couple of chips on my wife's van and they came out OK using the manufacturers paint and it was $10 or so. Dr. Colorchip looks cool, but I'm cheap and the touch up seems to work just fine! :)

EDIT: OK I probably spent another 20-30 in a wet sanding block and polishes, but those are universal!

Before I try to sort myself, has anyone had any luck with claiming on the warranty for the really thin paint, especially on the base colours like my own Comp Orange?

3 months and 3500 miles in I have a few tiny stone chips, not on the front but on top of the bonnet/hood and high on the driver's door.

Already the paint around these 2mm across chips is flaking off.

My e36 BMW is 17 years old with 105,000 miles and despite battle scars and dents caused by years of London parking and commuting, there is still not one stone chip.

Even the major dents show no paint damage.

If anyone has had any luck claiming, do let me know.

Cheers.
It took over 18 years before the paint started to fade on my e36, except for the parts that had an accident repair in the body-shop. On those parts the clear-coat came off with every car wash...

On my S550 I'm not even thinking about going to the car wash... the paint on the non metallic colors are much thinner compared to the metallic colors. It also depends what part of the car, like the plastics are thinner that the metal parts and the aluminum parts are somewhere in the middle... at least based on the scratches I have so far.

Been asking around about dr. colorchip and was advised against it several times. I'm not sure about these OEM touch up bottles though, but will give it a try, especially as they come with a clear-coat. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K5WBABG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Anyway, car paint isn't what it used to be back in the day, nowadays its painting the max amount of car with the least amount of paint I guess...

I had my entire hood painted under warranty. I had to take it to my dealer they sent pictures to ford techs, they denied that the paint was less than paper thin on the hood, I contacted the local ford rep who looked at the car himself and determined that the hood had hundreds of tiny chips and the rest of the front did not. He called ford and they painted the whole hood under warranty. The key is you have to prove that there is an actually issue with the paint.

Fair warning, I ordered this kit a couple of weeks ago and only received the black. I let them know and they said they would send the clear. However, what showed up was Mopar clear. When I told them I wanted it replaced, they said that they are all the same and clear is clear. I told them that if I wanted Mopar clear, I would have ordered Mopar clear...Long story short I got a refund.

Dr. colorchip has worked really well for me. I get plenty of chips over time from my 600mi/wk commute. Every so often I just use the kit again and it's unnoticeable.

The paint on my WRX was awful, too.

I havent noticed any issues on my Mustang yet, though.

thank the EPA for your new water based paints! All new cars have crappy thin paint due to new laws

The new paints are eco friendly...meaning they are water based. I had a Trans Am, Red, and the paint was so thin I could see the undercoat. Pontiac painted whole car and that was in 1982. I just live with it and touch it up. I have 13,200 miles on the EB and I have four paint chips, the latest was yesterday. F^&*ing jacked up pick up trucks, tossed a stone right into my passenger side fender, at 80 mph, as I passed him. Touched it up and move on.

I have several paint chips as well, 15 OW and I agree, looks like the paint chips very easy. Hell, my 04 SY Cobra had 43k miles and didnt have any chips at all.
