I've just got Corbeau bucket seats (I recommend them, they look and feel the business) and fix rear seat delete in my GT, lots of lbs dumped and with the race catback I've already started the long modding trip to decent weight figures.

Next: alu driveshaft, aerospace ultralight brake kit, carbon hood, lexan rear glass...

Very cool. Would you have a rough figure of the weight savings broken down? Are there any check air-bag lights on now?

No, I don't have figures but I could hold a bucked with a hand and I nearly couldn't hold one OEM seat with both...seriously, with the rear seat delete and the two new bucket seats I think I've dropped 60/70 Lbs at least.

Yes, there is a yellow airbag light on, I could switch it off if I cared, but I don't.

I'm very very happy with this work.

Aluminum Crash Bar

Well I don't know about any of you guys but I wasn't about to wait around for an aftermarket company to make aluminum crash bars. I did the front today going to do the rear tomorrow. Stock steel front crash bar is 13.4lbs. The one I build out of Aircraft grade aluminum alloy is 4.8lbs The stock one was actually quite flimsy compared to the one I made in terms of rigidity and strength. I drove over them to see what would happen haha (its the engineer in me)

This is one of those things I'll implement in a few weeks, I was actually waiting for some parts producer to make a front/rear crash bar delete...

I'll look into gutting doors too.

Do you have pics of the OEM naked front end?

Is the crash bar holding the front end?

Thanks.

it has an engine!
Arent the oe crash bars designed to give way in certain places in impacts to lessen impact. IE crumple zones. Wouldnt a stronger one effect that?

Ya here is a pic I wish i would have took a picture of the back of the bumper but it has a little insert that it slides into holding your bumper up so if you dont do it right your bumper will sag. It actually slides into that plastic part of your bumper that comes out. here is the pic.

No the crumple zones are on the actual frame rails the crash bars are just that "crash" bars. its so on a minor fender bender you wont be crushing your radiator and destroying everything. I thought about just removing it all together but I rather be able to still play bumper cars if some idiot hits me and all i have to do is replace a plastic bumper and not the whole front end. an extra 4lbs is worth it to me. If anything a stronger crash bar would stiffen up the front end a lil bit and provide added "ramming" capabilities haha. The main reason is that the crash bar holds your whole plastic bumper assembly up.

Edit* not to mention the new GT350 comes with these aluminum... i'm willing to bet mine is lighter though :D

Interesting. If you made one id probably buy it. :)
Haha I might make them but I don't think it would be cost effective. $200 in material and about 8 hours of work is kinda steep for just 20lbs of weight reduction. (front and rear)
