I actually considered getting like 50% or even 70% on the front windshield as added protection for the interior and to 'secretly' darken the rest of the windows without putting a darker % on the sides.

After a little research its a very bad idea. The film, regardless of material or type, will still have varying degree of light distribution across the windshield, meaning any oncoming light will spread across. This is exacerbated in the rear windshield because of the defroster strips, and although the front has none it is the same concept. The image looking out can be slightly distorted, especially with multiple light sources. I would HIGHLY suggest against it
