These were shot with a Canon 6D and EF24-70 f/2.8 lens. The light was lousy and time was limited, so they're more photoshop than photography, but that might make a good discussion point some time.

Oh, and no...I did not score a unicorn plate. That too is photoshop...;) IMG_0501.jpg IMG_0503.jpg IMG_0508.jpg

I'm looking to get back into photography, I sold all my gear and cameras before except my old d40 and a couple lenses. Can you guys recommend a good budget camera to get me started again? I was looking at something like the D3300 or D5300

I just picked up the D5300 (price just dropped to under$800 w/18-140mm lens). So far it blows away all my Canon DSLR's. I'm really impressed with it. I got the 18-140MM lens due to the mediocre reviews of the other kit lenses.

    Another suggestion for this thread....

Attach photos to your post as opposed to linking them. A lot of people (like me) work at places where they block image servers like photo-bucket or Flickr, so we only get to see a fraction of the great stuff posted.
    Thanks!

    Keep 'em coming!:headbang:

Most of my photos ATM are the product of Photoshop as well. I'm just now starting to grasp the manual mode and basic photography ethics. Wish I could follow around a professional photographer for at least a day to learn and have them critique me.

I've had the opportunity to do exactly that, and I can tell you it's an incredibly educational experience. Learning the technical aspects is easy and just requires some diligence, but learning how a good photographer sees things is really eye-opening.

I have been into photography for years. Last year I started to turn my hobby into an income stream. I started doing weddings, senior, and family portraits on the side. Going to open an LLC this spring.

I shoot Nikon. D750 and I have a D7000 as a back up. Too much glass to list.

I shoot RAW and do 95% of my post work in lightroom.

Don't worry so much about going "full manual". It has it's place and reasons to use it.

But learn what each of the 3 aspects are (iso, aperture, shutter speed) and work on control 2 of the 3 of them yourself.

The first step to get out of AUTO is taking control of your ISO. When you understand what that does and how it affects your pictures, start shooting in aperture priority.

Finally switch to shutter priority. When you grasp all three of those, full manual will be a piece of cake.

I shoot 70% in aperture priority, 25% manual, 5% shutter priority.

Nice! That last shot is really crisp for such low light.

That is probably the best piece of advice I've gotten yet. I think that will make it easier for me to adapt to full manual. Kind of like winging myself off the training wheels one step at a time. Thanks man!

Nikor 50mm 1.4 & D750 shot (f1.6 @ 1/1250 - iso 100 (hand held) Metered on the lights, so the car came dark)

This is almost the same shot, but this time I metered on the car to make the lights not over power.. Aperture priority, so the camera shot 1/200.

This just goes to show you how a simple shutter speed change can dramatically change the look of a photo.

    50mm 1/200 - f 1.6 - iso 100
