**Bit of a heads up here for people**

I noticed over the past few weeks that my clutch pedal wasnt alays fully returning after shifting.... it was leaving about 0.5-1cm of travel on the pedal, which I needed to hook my foot under to fully return.

This was happening on about 3/10 shifts, but slowly getting worse.

I emailed Steeda and they suggested lubricating the piston/plunger on the OE mechanism that sits inside the spring.

This seems like a sensible fix, as it stands to reason with significanltly less force from the spring, the piston might be finding difficulty in returning fully.

I had the thing lubricated last week with thick silicone based grease, and after a good 200 miles of driving I think its safe to say 'fixed'!

Definitely worth checking on your car, as this could easily end up riding your clutch. I suppose some pistons are better lubed from the factory than others, so wont affect all cars.

Thanks Alex,

Just as a note to everyone. After thousands of these sold this is the first and only time we had heard of this issue.
It's probably just a defect in the plastics being slightly too tight fitting.
It's always a good idea to add some lubricant to things that slide.

As a further update:

The above mentioned 'lube fix' only lasted about a week, before the pedal was back to its old tricks (and steadily getting worse).

I asked the dealer to take a look whilst the car was in for service.

They drove the car and said they couldnt replicate the problem - yeh, right!

Today ive installed the matching (and uprated) Steeda spring perch.

http://www.steeda.co.uk/steeda-s550-mustang-clutch-assist-spring-perche-upgrade-kit-c2x21452666

Its £90 so it had better be good. Not test driven the car yet, but this is the OE perch that came out:

All broken around the top. Who knows if this was the cause of the problem.... But in any case it proves the dealer was a lazy workshy lying barsteward!

So I now have the Steeda spring perch and spring. Hopefully im all set.

I've just received my steeda spring & perch today so that install is imminent, significantly cheaper from the states though $85 for the spring AND perch together. Just went in with the rest of my stuff sitting at Stackry.

£90?!

Bloody hell, those boys know how to charge!
True, but ive just been and driven the car and its fixed the problem (seemingly) as well as improving feel once again (over and above the spring).

£90 is bloody strong money, but its cheaper than a new clutch and comes with a lifetime guarantee.

Not to mention that Ford UK would charge about £400 or something for a similar solution.

Glad you tracked down the problem to a broken OEM parts Alex and glad its fixed!
Need to get the whole clutch pedal assembly from Ford! Still though guys your pricing compared to your USA brethern is eye watering (yes i know there's exchange rate, vat, duty, etc) £105.48 + shipping for the 35lb spring & perch. I paid $84.95

So... someone ELI5 this for me; does the spring reduce effort, or increase it? (on my leg). The clutch on mine is fine; easy to use, no crunching etc. It's FAR better than the demo car I tested in February. It's similar to the Monaro - and miles better than some of the older cars I've owned.

Hi willisit the spring makes controlling the clutch pedal easier as it makes the transitions easier to cope with, being a lighter spring rate.

Some people (generally who are used to the type of car / clutch) have no real issues, and dont see that much difference with the Steeda spring, other people swear by it. Either way for less than £20 its a 'no lose' option for manual drivers.
