Roughly four months ago, I purchased a 2016 (V6) Mustang and a pre-owned 2015 Fiesta SE. The goal was to procure two totally different high-value cars that I could enjoy driving around at non "free trips to your local jail!" speeds. The goal was to also drive both cars until the wheels fall off.
The good news is that I think I did a good job with my selections. The better news is that both cars will be paid off this month!! The bad news? I'm already looking to get rid of them.
Why?
Because I'm an idiot, that's why. Well.. That and the fact that I just came down with a nasty car bug. As much as I loveee the criminally underrated V6 Mustang, my eyes keep shifting to the 2018 GT. The looks are growing on me. Beyond that, this car should do all of the things that kept me from pulling the trigger on todays current crop of GT's. I'm also looking at trading in the Fiesta SE for a Civic (Sport) Hatch. Mostly because it's more practical and arguably more reliable.
So now I find myself wrapped up in the cliche'd "Angel and Devil" situation. This is where you all come in. I need some help. Which voice should I listen to? Here's what they are telling me (and yes, I realize uttering these words may only further convince some of you that I need professional help. Or Jesus. Or Pepto-Bismol. Ahem, getting right to it:
The angel on my shoulder is saying:
“Sean, what are you doing? Not only did you just buy two cars, but you're ALREADY on the cusp of paying both of them off! Why can't you just be happy with what you own!? It would be incredibly irresponsible of you to go and lose the money that you just spent on these cars by trading them in for bigger, more expensive vehicles that you don't even need! How about being responsible? You should take that money and put it towards the home that you plan on buying next year, or on traveling, or investments, or other hobbies. Why go car broke? It doesn't make sense... Especially when you consider the fact that your job doesn't even require a commute! Beyond that, your area doesn't exactly allow for spirited riving - so what's the point? Be happy with what you own, be proud of what you own, and shift your focus to more important things."
Yet the devil on my shoulder says:
“Honestly? That Angel needs to shut the f*** up. Responsibility, blah blah blah. You know what Sean? You ain't getting any younger. Life is short mi amigo. You can either live a boring a** responsible life and spend your money in boring a** responsible ways, or you can have fun and actually enjoy the fruits of your hard work. The bottom line is that you are right here, on this planet, right now, and you should lavish in the luxuries that it has to offer you. The angels over there talking like you can't afford this stuff. F*** that noise. You have no kids. You have no significant other. There are no strings on you. So either go big or regret not doing so for the rest of your life."
Alright, I realize I just posted up a giant wall of text, but this was partly an effort to put a spin on the classic "What would you do?" threads. That said, I look forward to your feedback and possibly even a couple (well deserved?) flames.
