I wonder if he is running a palette system to get 3 colors or using a dual head and printing the 2 then offsetting on the 3rd. If the latter. That would be a lot of work per print and maybe why he is hesitant without enough potential support.
Can’t say. I don’t know squat about 3D printing. Only what I’ve seen TV.

@pilotgore might be able to help with this
Thanks for bringing this to my attention @Atlas1 . This would be SUPER easy to knock out.

The 3D printer usually prints .2mm at a time with one color at a time. So, with multicolor prints, after the first layer of color 1, the filament switcher switches to the second color, prints what it needs to on the second layer, then goes up to the third layer. Switches colors back to the original color, prints layer 3 and 4 then switches again.

Something on a flat plane like this wouldn’t take very long at all… maybe only 5 “tool changes” needed.

Here’s a picture of a one off funnel I did for a good friend for his fleet of custom vehicles that all have the Cummins 24v Diesel engines. He’s a Cummins fanatic. I think there were 100 tool changes here, taking a total of 21 hours, where a solid color would have been 7 hours.

Serious question, how many people are interested and what would you consider a “fair price?”

-Jon

Edit: keep in mind, that funnel prints vertically, so it was switching from red to black every .4mm, so there accuracy isn’t amazing (but good enough.)

When printing on a flat plane, the detail goes up considerably.

Long term, lots of guys who 3D print stuff for sale back out because it’s a little bit of a hassle to print, clean the print (removing supports and burning off strings,) packing then shipping. Full disclosure… my oil funnels sets that I sell for $100, I have about $38 wrapped up in plastic, packing materials, shipping costs, and electricity…. Then there’s the $1500 printer, which I’m not factoring wear and tear in on. I’d say all in all I have about 1-1.5 hrs of labor wrapped up in each set. It’s definitely not about the money for me…. I just enjoy it.

We’ll, so far he’s not even doing the GT. I bought a set of ST’s, told him I’d like some in GT., and he was interested. I even sent the part number for the OEM insert so he could order one and have exact measurements. But, since then, he’s gone dark. So I thought maybe if I could show some interest maybe he’d be back on it.
And yeah, they are slick! I’d love a set in the Mustang!!
Hey @Gearz , you interested in designing some of these?

I won’t comment on price. Whatever you would find appropriate would be fine with me. I think it’s a pretty cool idea and I would get them for my car. The only thing I’m struggling with is what would work for a Mach 1. Gt guys can just do the logo. Mach 1 seems too busy? Not sure what would look classy and oem like. But it’s a really neat addition from looking at the pictures

*edit* $15 seems to low in my opinion for your time. Put me down for more than that lol assuming someone more creative than I could come up with something for a Mach 1

Does the Mach 1 also have lighting underneath like the ST from the picture? I don’t think the 350 has it, but it’s winter in Indiana and I haven’t been in my car for a while :)

Would you want something translucent, or just a design?

While not quite Indiana, it’s “winter” in Washington state and I haven’t been in my car since Halloween lmao. I would go out and check but I’m at the hospital. Been up for 2 days waiting for this little guy to make his appearance. I can check when we get home either tonight or tomorrow!

I am definitely interested. If I could will something like this into existence, I would have the front one have the GT above the 5.0 in the appropriate fonts to match the car and the second rear disc would have the pony symbol. Both would be translucent so the lighting could bleed through. Sounds like a lot of extra work though.

That being said, I would be interested in whatever design was made that did the translucent thing.

I know absolutely nothing about 3D printing so I can’t even begin to comment on a fair price, that would be up to you.

Would you want a piece that replaces the stick rubber piece, or just two disks that sit on top of the rubber piece? If it sat on top, I’d be worried that they’d move frequently since there’s nothing to hold them in place.

Could someone with calipers measure the height from the bottom of the cup holders (foreword and aft) with rubber removed to the approximate top of the led? Bonus points if it’s in mm :)
