Howdy Everyone,

I am the proud owner of a 2019 Mustang GT PP1 car, that I purchased in late June. I love this car so far, and coming form a 2016 EB Mustang, the sound and the power are incredible. However, I found myself wondering yesterday as I saw a hot-rod civic take-off from a stoplight way faster than I did, what is considered "normal" take-off behavior for Mustang enthusiasts. To put it another way, when I start from a stop light, I don't mash the throttle to the floor, I smoothly put my foot down, and don't typically take off very fast. My thoughts on this are based off not wanting to slam on the breaks if the idiots in front of me don't take off. However, as I mentioned above, I find myself overtaken by cars I know don't perform as well as mine most of the time. So, my question for you is, when you take-off, do you tend to mash the pedal to the floor, smoothly depress it, somewhere in-between? Thanks!

I have problems trying to accelerate somewhat quickly from a stop without going full retard. It seems to be either take off like a grandma (and have other cars pass me until I've gotten to third or mid-ranges in 2nd), or basically launch the car. I've found it easier to just start in second gear that way you can accelerate to a reasonable speed without having to shift out of first or putting your car into ultra high RPMs that make you seem like you're trying to drive like an attention whore. Of course, that is not always ideal.

These cars really don't seem to go anywhere with any amount of motivation until you've gotten to 3-4k rpm. The Camaro is much easier to leisurely accelerate in.

Man I wish I had my car, I've probably forgotten how to drive it at this point.

I have the L.C. hold my RPMs at about 3500, and then launch it, max throttle.

Every time.

Stop sign, Mickey D's drive-through, when the light changes in front of a school, old ladies crossing the street in front of me.......

It doesn't matter. It's 100% max L.C. acceleration after every stop.

If I'm first at the light, I'm launching off 80% of the time. Usually, I am not first at the light and am stuck with the will of the cars ahead of me.

Dude was just baiting you. to you for not taking the bait. I am surrounded by commuter Honda Accords and dorks on their phones, so no one ever seems to care what kind of car I'm in - I have yet to have someone do any flexing around me. Since I'm a daily commuter, I drive like grandma 87% of the time anyway. I sure do enjoy putting it in loud mode on the way home, though.

Until you bolt your supercharger on, you have to wind it up a bit to get into the good stuff...

If you want to stroke your ego, go to the track. Who gives a flying fawk shit about who gets to the next stop light fastest.

But hey it's your car. If you want to throw your clutch out prematurely because you have a problem with the 1999 Civic wide body automatic next to you at the stop lights, that's on you.

I like to roll out slow. Nice and easy off the clutch and then if there isnt any one else around I smash on it up till 60-75. Then I let it cruise back down to a reasonable speed. Gets the blood flowing and keeps the drive fun. It would probably be more exhilarating launching the crap out of it at ever light but I'm not ready to replace broken parts...yet.

I try not to give a crap how other drivers are behaving and just drive at my own pace. If your ego is affected by a random civic doing random things thats

You have it backwards. That way you get booked on your own time instead of company time.

It's a all part of the hot rod muscle culture around here. With Woodward and Back to the bricks going on here I've had a million guys do that to me lately. All old muscle cars from SS's to old Corvette's. I let them go. We don't have a lot of civic ricer types around here.

Howdy nastang87xx,

Nope, I have no issue with my ego. I don't care if a Honda or a Shelby blow past me. I was just curios what the general consensus was on take-offs. I have been driving like this for more than 30 years, and have no intents to change. I mash down the pedal to take off when necessary, I just don't do it going from a dead stop. And since I see most other cars pass me by, perhaps I am driving differently than other? Plus, I have the A10, so no clutch to blow-out :-)

If you drive an auto all you've gotta do is mash the pedal down and let Jesus take the wheel, not much involvement needed there.
I let Ricky Bobby take the wheel.
