I didn't get it not because I couldn't afford it, I omitted that option because the best Garmin Nuvi is still $300 less and has lifetime updates with traffic and offers a superior product for navigating, POIs, search by name functionality, etc. No need to see Ford to get a new update that doesn't even show bodies of water correctly.
I find the convience of a built in system well worth the cost. The Sync 2 system in my Mustang has POIs, traffic alerts and shows bodies of water with names even for the little mud puddle ponds that are so prevalent in my area.

Perhaps you missed the thread on the MFT update?

Regardless, you can be happy with your choice and I'll be happy with the extra $795 in my pocket.

Don't take any offense to this as I know you have no control over it but consumers need to know that information before making a purchase. That certainly could influence their decision.
jmr061,

I understand your concerns. We don't have much control of pricing since the updates are provided by HERE Maps.

No offense taken. :)

Only had the car few days, just found out the "Destinations" Applink to stream GPS from phone doesn't work with SYNC3.

Any easy way to run googlemaps or any other iPhone NAV app through the SYNC3? Besides just using the app on phone and getting the audio via bluetooth?

Thanks
-Jon
Jon,

Here is a list of all compatible apps through AppLink: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync...commands-to-control-your-smartphone-apps.html

I know you're looking for a way to do it without the navigation app on your phone, but Siri Eyes Free works pretty well. You can activate Siri through SYNC to initiate a route on your phone. Check it out: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync...d-siri-eyes-free-with-sync-3.html?sync=sync-3

Thanks for reply.
So at this point you cannot get the map image from the phone to appear on the cars display?

Well, contrary to popular belief, not everyone has a smartphone :eyebulge:

I personally see little value in toting around an expensive mini computer with a large monthly service payment when an AT&T flip phone @ $.10/min. does what I need (i.e. make & receive calls away from home & at events).

For me, Nav was a "must have" option on the car.

Nothing wrong with that, I personally would rather have a Garmin or Tomtom that has more options and better maps for less than half the price. But at the same time some people would rather add their own suspension and bracing where I bought the performance pack.

PP is a wicked good deal, would have been all over it if it was offered with the A6

I heard from other sources that if you don't have the nav option you will not be able to use apple car or google play navigation. They say that you need the module for it to work. At least Hyundai apple car play is that way anyways.

So, no. You cannot mirror the navigation apps unless you have the module. You can use everything else though.
That actually makes a lot of sense - for Ford and their navigation offering.

That doesn't make sense. If you can mirror the phone on the cars screen the car doesn't know if it's mirroring a nav app or not.

Also, all cars with Sync whether it is the base or one with MFT has the GPS reciever. Even if you don't have Nav the GPS reciever is used for 911 locating and turn by turn direction from Sync Services.

Will the 2016 NAV map USB update be an annual update? The older NAV memory "A" chip were updated only annually and cost $100-150 from Ford, $50 on eBay, if you were willing to wait for six months. I have a large screen after-market GPS that I use in my truck. Free map updates...available, at least three times a year. My Mustang NAV still has not updated certain roads that were changed more than three years ago. My after-market GPS had the route changes updated in less than 6 months!

Hey everyone!

Mirroring is not available with SYNC 3. We are working with Apple and Android on implementation of both CarPlay and Android Auto. Keep an eye on our Media site for announcements: Media.Ford.com

tsunami,

With SYNC 3, the map data is embedded and will be easy to update via USB. Currently, we do not have any price info.

Thanks for reply.

Jon,

You're unable to get the map from your phone to appear on the screen. You'll need to use Bluetooth Audio or Siri Eyes Free.

I also would think using the screen as a "dummy terminal" just to display what is happening on the phone would be possible.

....perhaps one day

That is basically what CarPlay and Android Auto will offer, if Ford ever implements it. I'm starting to think Ford should have been working with Alpine or Pioneer for their technology, as Ford is 3 years out of date by the time they come out with new hardware. Pioneer and Alpine among others have had CarPlay and AA support for some time now. I wouldn't hold your breath on Ford getting it within the next year.

Looking like going Aftermarket is the way to go. If I could figure out an easy way to implement a Pioneer or Alpine system with the HVAC then I'm going down that road.

For now I just set my Iphone6Plus sideways in the spot right below the switched for the modes. I figure its about the same size as an aftermarket GPS :D
