So while tracking down something else I decided to check the vacuum of the Summit BOV. (The standard one from ESS with pre installed 3.5 spring.)

Summit says it should start opening at 8hgand be fully open at 15hg

Mine starts opening at 4-5hg and is fully open at 9hg

First thought was maybe the spring is breaking in. But that's allot of break in no? I'm fully open within 1hg of when it should start opening.

@Brevin any experience with this?

Maybe they started using a lighter spring. My Tial only has a 2 lb spring in it. Consider that even with the lightest spring, the pressure on top of the piston to keep it closed when in boost will always be more than the boost pressure inside the intercooler, trying to force it open. The lighter spring simply means that the pressure is relieved easier the moment the throttle snaps shut.

Light spring also ensures the bov is open at idle.

Needs a new spring.
Bummer, since it's still fairly new

I started looking on summits site for a replacement spring. No dice for the 3.5. but the unit is cheap enough I'll probably just order another or perhaps I'll Order a tiAl

True true, My preference though is that it's functioning within its spec. If it isn't, I won't trust it and will always wonder if it's getting worse or whatever 🤣

No problem there at idle I hang around 22 more than twice the needed amount needed to keep it open 😄

I never said there was but that bov has been known to have issues in a short amount of time. It's just not a very good piece.
Mine did have some issues right away with the diaphragm and plunger movement. Resolved by reseating diaphragm and adding a light amount of sewing machine oil.

I looked at the Tial today. And that's a hell of a price jump! From $60 to Nearly $300. Mechanicaly the mechanism isn't that sophisticated. What is it about the TiAL that brings up the cost so far?

The quality. TiAL is one of the best you can buy. A bov is a very important component that is easily overlooked.
