Hi guys,

Whenever I close the driver's window, and sometimes also when I open it, there's an unpleasant screeching/cracking sound. You can hear it in the video below, right before the window closes completely.
It always happens at the end of the travel regardless of which way it travels, and only if the window has travelled at least half of its complete path. Opening and closing it just a few inches won't cause this.
The passenger's window is fine, it never does that.

Any ideas what could be the problem? The car is under warranty, but I'd rather not go to the dealership unless really necessary.

Thank you.

Sounds like:
  • debris within the window motor
  • debris within the window track/cogs
  • something within the door has collapsed and is riding up against the window glass as it gets to a certain point in the up/down travel

My F150 does that from time to time. It's trash down in the seal area. I just wash the window seal area real well then blow it out with air. Sometimes just the compressed air blow out will work.

It's been like this from day one. I wouldn't be too surprised to find out that they didn't install something correctly inside the door, considering how this clutch switch came from the factory. :giggle:

Good idea. I'll try blowing some compressed air in there.

For sure some debris got in there. Might need to pull the door panel off to get it out if the compressed air doesn't do the trick.

Here’s all the info for the door internals IF you want to try and diagnose by yourself:

If one tries to adjust or fix any of the above components in the aforementioned sections above (EXCLUDING just the window motor), it’s quite possible the door glass could then be misaligned - which is an entirely whole other tedious procedure to realign (ie: many steps).

Window motor R&R won’t affect glass alignment.

I just took my car in for several issues; this being one of them. They were very lazy and just put lubrication somewhere. It didn’t help at all.

Did anyone get to the bottom of this issue? Just started happening on my 17 GT.

Sorry about not coming back with an update. I forgot about this thread.
Mine stopped doing that shortly thereafter, so I didn't have to do anything and then I forgot about it for quite some time. Then recently it did it again. This time I carefully inserted a plastic trim removal tool between the window and the door seal, used it to enlarge the gap a little, and blew compresed air through the gap. It cured it completely.
