Hello everyone,

Has anyone done or seen a straight pipe reso delete? I just bought a 2020 GT PP1 401a and got to see it on a lift and noticed it had straight pipe in the resonator area. My question is, is there a benefit or is it just sound? I keep thinking about going to an H pipe but can't really see why, unless I may run into problems with the current set up. Car sounds great, runs great, but I also have heard that the back pressure with H/X's helps with power a bit. Is there any truth to that?

Thanks so much!

A resonator delete is a pretty standard thing to do. I'd say majority people here have done it.

Yes. Removing the resonator makes a huge difference in sound. And a little bit in HP. Also X or H pipe is a decent amount lighter than that giant briefcase.

Does it add HP Ehh, a little bit. It's mostly about sound.

X or H pipe will largely depend on your taste in tone and sound. All though an X pipe will flow better more evenly than an H pipe and give a bit more power than H. However H is generally excepted as sounding better.

Don't get caught up in the back pressure talk at this level. It's mostly, if not completely irrelevant.

It's not about backpressure, it's about scavenging. Airflow down one pipe in the X pipe helps pull the air along with it on the other pipe helping to clear the post-ignition air out of the cylinder so that when the intake valves open, the engine gets more fresh air in allowing it to make more power.

I know it's not about back pressure. I said it's basically irrelevant and he should largely ignore talk of it😜

It should sound way better if you go back to an x or h pipe. Plus like mentioned you have no scavenging with straight pipes so it's probably hurting performance.

Just be aware that it's gonna greatly increase the volume of the exhaust and it's gonna sound raspy and trumpet like. Many owners have went with aftermarket resignators after deleting the oem ones.

I think the x and H pipes are too far away from the engine to do any real scavenging. It's mostly for sound. I like the sound of true duals, like you have, better than either an H or an X.

Fwiw..Steeda dyno'd a gen 3 with their X and H pipes. The X made an extra 10whp from 3k rpm all the way up. The H made nothing over the factory resonator.

Weird, sounds like they just had a muffler shop fab up straight pipes.... Removing the stock res makes the car significantly louder. Add aftermarket mufflers/axle-back and it'll get loud AF.... I'm currently looking to change my set-up, because H-pipe + S-Type mufflers are too loud for long trips. I need to be able to talk to my passenger....

The volume and sound is great! Except to one of my dogs...my wife told me it rattles things in the house. When she told me, outwardly I had a nice composed, concerned face...the child. inside me was grinning ear to ear! haha

I was more concerned if there was a benefit/loss with the straight as I've never heard anyone talk about them. If not I'll keep it this way till I get a full exhaust.

That's good. I'm glad you like it and are satisfied with the result. Enjoy : )

10 HP on a 440 HP engine is error tolerance. What did it do at the drag strip?
It was back to back testing with their own products, done at the same time, with the same coolant temps. That's a legit test in the eyes of any honest, reasonable person. If it was a test done at a drag strip, one could just say it was driver error or weather conditions changed slightly between runs.

Besides that, why would they say that about their own product if it wasn't true?? The answer- they wouldn't. That would be counterproductive to business.

X makes power, H doesn't. It's not a lot, but it's the same thing we've seen for decades with X pipes. They scavenge, where an H doesn't.

And there is usually a 2 to 4% difference in every run.

When we were dynoing engines for customers we would always use the second pull because it was always 5 to 10 HP higher.

Only accurate way to test for that small of an increase, is MPH at a drag strip.
