Hi all,

First time I own a Gen6 with Magneride.

I noticed that when I drive fastlyinto a long turn (more than 60 mph), the steering starts to become very stiff for a few seconds and then normalizes again when I get out of the curve. I never noticed this on my previous Gen 6 without Magneride… is it related to the suspension?

Thanks

Forgot to mention, above only happens when steering is in Sports mode. I know when steering is in Sports mode, it will become more stiff, but the effect of stiffening I describe above, is instant when I enter a turn at high speed and very noticeable

Have you ever driven a car without power steering?
I guess my previous S550 had the same electric power assisted steering? But I never noticed this behavior... Is it normal?

So i've driven a few performance cars over my lifetime without power steering. The feedback you get from the suspension and tires while turning is less "muted" without power steering, especially if a car is pushing (understeer). So the sport mode on the electronic ps in the mustang tries to give you more turning feedback IMO.

I also noticed that it only occurs during right turns, not left....

Sounds logical. However I also noticed that it only occurs during right turns, not left turns… strange

Well then if you havent already, take it to an alignment rack and have all the susp components checked, then get it aligned. If they can get you to -2 degrees camber that would be ideal IMO. Most likely going to need camber bolts or plates to get there.

thanks for the hint, there was actually a gap of 1.7 mm on one wheel and they set it back to specs. New car after 600 miles 🤯

i guess I now need to reset the steering sensor?

I would think any competent alignment shop would've done that already if it was needed. Usually that would occur only if the steering wheel center position was changed.

It was only the front left tire.

As it is raining now, I will have to wait tomorrow to test if the steering stiffness in turns was due to the miss-alignment of the left wheel. Will give an update.
