Hi guys, hoping someone can help. For the last two times that I have driven my car I noticed a lot of play in the steering wheel. When it first happened it was a little scary because I was driving in heavy rain on the motorway but I knew it wasn’t the road conditions because I was driving sensibly and there weren’t any puddles. Today it did the same thing and the best way to describe it is like you are driving on ice and have no control over the car or like it’s losing traction.
The alignment/traction are ok however what I noticed was that when I cycled through the steering modes they didn’t feel any different. They all felt like comfort settings. Here’s the weird part, after I do this a few times the steering stiffened up to the normal sport setting and the car was fine.
Therefore today i concluded the steering mode is somehow going into comfort mode even though it is showing as SPORT mode on the dash. It stiffens for a short while when I cycle through modes as stated above but I think it returns later and definitely when I drive it again after its rested for a period of time.
Since the steering is all electric would this be the rods or something?
