I can definitely tell the difference, you can feel it more taking turns at speed such as an on/off ramp. Cruising there's still a difference but not quite as much.

Mid-corner stability from steering wheel input is hugely important imo.

I kept my XR5 in sports mode from the first week onwards as comfort and normal just didn't have the feeling/feedback i wanted when cornering, and those things were meant to corner! It was a little heavier around town but it was consistent and reliable with fantastic feedback. I just put a bit more effort in when doing the old one handed turns going slow or parking etc.

Mrs car (2017 i30 SR) has no user-selectable adjustability but it does so automatically and it stiffens up mid-corner a bit sometimes and it pisses me off! Nearly hit a curb due to being used to a lighter feel then going through a roundabout at pace it stiffened up and i wasn't anticipating it  It's so silly for a little hot hatch that actually handles quite well but they were silly to not keep a constant feel with just selectable modes imo.

The differences between modes are quite noticeable with the Performance Package and bumpy Kansas and Missouri roads. I find Comfort way too light, and normal also feels too light to me most of the time. Steering stays in Sport 100% of the time since it just feels right.

Sport mode is the all-around best. It has a “feel” when turning-in, as opposed to an on/off situation from the other modes. Of course, the heft from sport mode is great too.

I have a 2018 with PP and i also like the sports mode the best but my mode keeps going back to normal every time i restart the car. Isn't it suppose to stick to the mode you select? I know the driving modes reset back to normal but the steering mode should not. Just want to confirm before taking it to the dealer.

My '16 always goes back to normal also. Kinda irritating . . .

Is that the normal behavior though?

Yup! I have a 18 GT Premium PP1. I prefer Sport Mode on the highway and Normal Mode on surface streets. She defaults to Normal Mode everytime I shut her down.

As you go from Comfort to Normal to Sport, the steering ratio decreases, the feel is more responsive, and feedback increases.

Comfort: parking
Normal: side streets, city driving
Sport: rural, twisties, highway

I don't like the Sport setting on the '18. It has an artificial rubbery-ness to it, quite tiresome to drive.
I used to swear by the Sport steering setting on my '18, but I've fallen in love with the Normal steering after using it for a little bit now. It's much more predictable and linear, and it lacks the artificial feel. Sure, it feels less engaging than Sport at first, but it's definitely more accurate.

I believe the only thing that changes is the assist level, nothing else.

Mustangs don't have much, if any, feel or feed-back through the steering wheel, no matter what the setting. It's not bad steering, just a bit numb.

I believe you have to hit the "OK" button when the screen prompts you, to lock in a particular setting.

I might be wrong, but try it. I hit "OK", and it stays where I put it.

Thanks for the tip. I will try it when I go home today.

I roll with normal. Sport feels like driving a go-cart. i'm sure on a track you'd find it helpful at some point though.
