I'm having a weird issue on my 2018 GT, the steering wheel doesn't self center after i make a complete turn either to the left or right (i. e. utilizing the whole 100% of turning radius available and making a U turn). The steering kind of locks up at full turn radius and i have to manually interrupt and turn it back to center it. This doesn't happen if i don't turn the steering all the way, let's say i make a turn utilitizing only 80% of the turning radius like a left or right 90 degree turn, the steering works as normal and self centers.

I'm noticing this behavior since a few days after i got the Steeda front control arm (lateral link+ tension links) and bumpsteer kit installed last week. I have OE PP wheels with 25mm spacers at the front for about 2 months but didn't notice this behavior previously. Any ideas on what might cause this? I initially thought this might be because of a bad alignment but I got a performance alignment done today at Steeda and i still have the issue.

Any input will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

This experience is coming from trucks but it could be the parts binding somewhere. You answered it yourself after messing about down there. Take a good look for metal on metal contact - this ain’t rocket science.

Turn it all the way then stop and look underneath.

It does sound like the geometric mods made are causing a tip-over point. Did it do this before the control arms and bumpsteer kit?

I turned it all the way in both directions while parked and couldn't hear any contact or rubbing noises. I don't have a lift and got these installed at a shop. Steeda took a look at my car yesterday while performing the alignment and they didn't mention anything about rubbing, etc.

It didn't do this before. I'm noticing it only after i got these installed.

Do you know the actual parts that were put on..? As Bmac suggested, it might have the wrong geometry and have a tip-point of locking. (caster?)

I got the Steeda front control arms

1) Lateral Links with extended ball joint to correct roll center
2) Tension Links with bushings (mine is a non-PP car and these links have a higher durometer bushing similar to the PP cars)

3) Bumpsteer kit

I have the FP track kit so lowered 1" F and R

Do you own a PP2, or have you lowered your car..? Those links are for lowered cars, correct..?

ed: Oh, I see you have the Ford Performance Track kit and have lowered about 1" ..?

I suggest contacting Steeda themselves about this. I had asked on the forums about those links and the PP2 suspension. But the problem you are having on having to "pull out of lock" with some force, is most likely do to those links. Steeda will have the answer for you. (Perhaps just their basic links?)

Or someone like Norm, & others who spent their entire lives working on their suspension set-up can chime in more.. I am just making a rational guess.

My apologies if my posts weren't clear. My car came from the factory with base GT suspension. However I got the Ford Performance track handling kit (springs, shocks, struts and swaybars) installed few months ago. This kit lowered it by 1" on all four corners.

Other than this current issue, how are you liking your Mustang's Ford Performance set-up..?

Specially in Wayne County..?

I absolutely love it now, the car handles beautifully and rides great. The track handling kit made a big difference, car is more planted and glued to the road. The body motions are well controlled and imperfections in the road are properly communicated to the driver which is both a good and bad thing, depending on the roads which you drive on.

The Steeda control arms beefed up and sharpened the steering response. The direction changes are quick, and the lazy steering response i previously had was gone.

I haven't noticed any difference with Steeda Stop the Hop kit so far. It's only been a week though and haven't done any hard launches to observe a difference but for day to day driving there isn't any degradation to the ride quality.

All of the mods I've done so far haven't added any NVH issues so I'm really happy with them. I think it's perfect now and I'll leave it the way it is. The ride is a bit firm but can only be noticed on roads that are really bad/terrible. For example, the section of I75 in Michigan between exit 60-69/ section of I95 in Florida between West Palm Beach to Miami (uneven road surfaces) is where i felt most uncomfortable, nausea inducing. Other than that the ride quality is fantastic. I've done a 2000 mile drive from MI to FL recently and it was very comfortable. I've even had 4 passengers (my parents and sister) on a 600 mile trip and they didn't complain at all.

Mike D at Steeda took my car for a spin and he said it was perfect. The only thing he recommended was to wait for the active Koni shocks that will be released next year.
