Anyone with wear marks and noise willing to send their front springs to Steeda to experiment? They can put them on the test car and see if they still rub. This will at least tell us if it's the our cars or the actual springs that cause the issue.

Do you have the time and willingness to pull the front wheels on your car and see if you have the same wear marks as us?

Would be an interesting test given you have had yours on so long.
I just put my new wheels and tires on my car about 2 weeks ago. I took time to wipe off my suspension components (wiping the springs was included in this), calipers, sway bar mounts, etc. There were no marks on my springs like was posted in this thread.

Oh,mine are out and I will be looking to speak to Dave about getting them
replaced. . A few weak coils is all it takes to bind up a spring .

Here are my marks on my springs. I have had them for about two months. I just wanted to put here for the record.

You have multiple people showing the wear marks from the coils hitting. I hope you are not suggesting that Steeda can just say oh it is your car causing this and not be responsible. I run multiple steeda products and plan to buy more in the future especially the rear spoiler coming up. David and crew have always been very helpful so hopefully they can help us with this.

People are out time, money from installs, money from alignments, etc.

I have had mine on for several months with no issues. Progressive springs will touch where the coils are spaced closer together, that is normal - that's what makes it a variable rate. Once the coils start to compress that is what increases the rate.

Things to look for:

1. Loose upper strut mount
2. Loose end links, sta bar needs to be torque and red loctite 3. Aftermarket camber or caster plates that are manufactured with cheap spherical bearings 4. Installation improperly done, springs, not positioned or clocked properly in spring seats - upper and lower spring 5. Aftermarket sta bar end links will cause knock-back, I went back to stock=

I have installed over a dozen lowering springs on 11 and up Mustangs. I have never had any problems with installs. I have reinstalled the Steeda springs 3 times and looked at all the nuts and bolts they say come loose. It is 100% the springs. I have bind marks on the top two coils.

Seems like the initial soft region is too soft and collapsing.

As mentioned by Brad (above), progressive (and dual-rate) springs are supposed to involve the close-spaced coils closing up. It's how the rate can be made variable.

But let's wait for David, m'kay?

As mentioned previously the fact that these springs are touching under compression is not an issue. In fact thats how progressive springs are designed to operate!

During the initial spring rate the coils typically wont come in contact, but once you begin putting enough force on the springs they compress far enough for the coils to stack ontop of each other. This limit on deflection allows the spring to build its rate utilizing the stiffer coil geometry. This isnt something to be worried about, its not a design flaw its just the way progressive springs work.

The rub you are seeing is a result of that, its common on progressive springs throughout the industry. However, the noise your hearing along with it is not common, which is probably why Steeda isnt seeing it themselves during testing. It makes sense however that slight manufacturing tolerances could allow some of the springs to contact each other a bit more than the majority which is why some of you hear the noise.

Using the spring silence rubbers posted earlier from TIEN should solve all the issues associated with the noise. Again nothing mechanically is wrong so dont stress over that.

Thanks for finding a quick and easy solution!

If they are touching metal to metal you will always hear noise. I am driving down the road hitting small bumps and hearing it during a commute to work. If during spirited driving it made noise I would understand.

Hi everyone, just to preface this we’ve sold over a thousand of these progressive springs so far. There are only a handful of people experiencing a noise coming from the front of the car, and we were able to rectify a few of those instances by having the customer torque down the sway bar end link nut using red loctite as we found they were still coming loose after a couple weeks even when torqued to spec. A noise can also arise if the spring isn’t seated properly.

As a few have mentioned, it is common for progressive spring coils to touch when under load.

The best way for Steeda to diagnose an instance of springs making noise is to physically have the car in our possession. We actually had one customer who claimed his springs were making noise send us the springs so we could put them in our Vortech S550 - and after thorough testing on and off the track, we couldn’t get those springs to make noise.

For those experiencing noise, the frequency in the shock and other OE factors could be different, the way the car was manufactured could have a slight variation, too.

What we are going to do is send out a pair of silencer rubbers to customers who are experiencing noise from the front springs after their due diligence has been completed. As a few have mentioned, this is a simple few minute install and can be applied to the springs while they’re still on the car - you may not have to take the wheel off if you jack the car up.

Also, if you’re local to Valdosta, GA or Pompano Beach, FL and are experiencing a noise, please pm me and we can coordinate you stopping by so we can see what’s going on first-hand.

Thanks David. But what if I bought the springs NIB from another forum member? It's not like I did it to save money, I paid the same if I had ordered direct and used our forum discount. I was trying to help out a forum member that went in a different direction.
