It's not touching, but I can barely slip an envelop between the two, so my guess is that under load that it would make contact and probably have the computer pull timing.

Not a unique problem, might try loosening the engine mounts and moving the engine as far to the driver's side as I can, as I've seen some suggestions in posts. But, it looks like it's already closer to the driver's side than the passenger side, so not sure I'd get much movement.

A question though. I have some high temp HPS silicon tubing. If I was to separate the header and the ac with that, would the computer still potentially detect knock? It would be more of a rubber-ish separation, not metal to metal contact, so hoping that it won't rattle and cause it to pull timing.

Anyone try that? I may give it a go and then send some logs to PBD to see if they see timing being pulled.

I'll post up a pic after I have it in to see if anyone has any thoughts.

Thanks in advance!

Something like this. First whiskey tango mockup. šŸ˜‡

Might keep a little bit of the heat off of that ac part also.

My Stainless Works headers are even closer than yours. I have a BMR K-Member so it drops the engine 3/8" which throws off the Header geometry. The driver side steering shaft is close too. Sometimes I can feel them touching through the steering wheel.

I think that’s a pretty normal AC to header gap. Mine is maybe a little larger gap but not by much. On a hard 2-3 shift I do get false knock from time to time. You can gently pry the ac line towards the passenger fender but there’s not a ton to be gained. The best solution is likely seeing if the motor can shift over to the driver’s side any more. If it can’t and you see knock, you could try solid motor mounts but that comes with pros and cons (vibrations).

Do you think that the silicon hose will cause false knock?

I’m hoping since it isn’t metal to metal that it won’t.

I’ll do a data log and send it in to PBD and see what they say.

The vibration may still resonate through the silicon but it’s worth a shot for sure.

You would be better off putting a dent in the header pipe at the point of contact. The header having a dent in it will not affect it's performance one bit. You will be able to gain 3/16 of an inch. You may not have to remove the header to put a dent in it. Use a long 1/2" extention and give it a good wack or two.

Or even an air hammer with a homemade bar attatched to it via weld.

I did check with the tuner to see if he saw any false knock or timing being pulled because the computer thought it was pinging, all good!

I as well as others used a long pry bar and carefully payed the AC block outward engraving the gap between the headers and AC block. I also wrapped my headers with titanium wrap. Good luck

I've installed so many sets of them, like mentioned I just loosen the engine mounts pry the engine over and retighten, never an issue.

it could help but if it is touching it will eventually rub through that hose.

I think a better option may be to try and move the AC hose or adjust the engine mounts. A last ditch effort would be to dent the headers.
