I went to go change my front brakes on 15’ S550 and upon putting an impact to the lug nuts, I noticed that they started spinning but no matter how much I tried to loosen the lug nuts they wouldn’t come off, and when trying to torque them back down, they spin freely that way as well now. The wheel isn’t loose, but now I’m thinking the studs are f***ked and I’m not exactly sure how to go about getting the wheels off without taking it to a shop. Is this normal for a car with only 80k miles?

100% normal if its the OEM lugs. You'll want to take a socket that is slightly smaller and beat it on to get it off the wheel. The OEM lug have caps that are known to do this. Best to get a good set of Gorilla lug nuts when your done.

What size socket were you using and what condition did the caps look like before you started ?

Yeah they’re the OEM lug nuts, they look like they’ve been through hell and back though. I didn’t know the lugs were two pieces 🤦‍♂️

I was using a 22mm , a 21 was to small and wouldn’t fit but that’s what I read was the correct from other forums post. The lugs were pretty trashed though. I didn’t know they were two pieces though, but basically the cap part of the lug nut what has broken?

I changed the stock lug nuts when my car had 200 miles on them with gorilla lug nuts from CJs. I Suggest you do the same when you've resolved the issue you're having.

Yeah it sounds like they were already trashed before you even started :frown:

13/16 is correct.
21mm won’t help.
Impacts don’t help.
22mm is much too large.

Once removed, get some good quality one piece nuts :like:

I appreciate it. I was really worried I had spinning studs. Thank you for the info. 👍

At this point to get them off is going to be a PITA. With a hammer and a small cold chisel you should be able to split and peel the caps off the steel nuts.
Once that is done, a standard size socket should fit.
