I am looking for a cheaper replacement that I can use so I can safely store the originals. From what I understand the only difference between this key and the original is the logo on the back. The Cobra isn't worth another $100 to me. I did the same thing for my 2013 when I went with a flip-key and that has been working for the last 7 years.
I was just wondering if anyone else went this route and if they had any problems.

Now here’s a stupid question lol and don’t take it the wrong way but but how many hours a year is that fob going to be in your pocket? This is not directed at Snoopy either Im just curious who here is going to daily drive this beast and or even do say 10k a year? I’m thinking mine will be a 3k a year car and maybe 5k but doubtful so maybe I will start the thread how many miles a year posting.

I wanted the Spare to program as a “My Key” and use it as a valet fob, or when dropping the car off for Service. That said I’m probably gonna see 5k per year.

I always get at least one spare key, if you misplace or lose a master key it will cost you a buttload of money to replace because you can't program a replacement key without 2 masters, so you have to pay the dealer to program the new key.

I never had done that previously, Earl but after discussing it with Jaime awhile back, I became convinced that a third one was a smart thing to do.

Then, he hooked me up wih a great Parts guy who presto, chango, had me a new fob.

And I really like the colored, vinyl sleeves. Much easier to tell which set you need when you lave the Casa.

Jaime
You can setup a valet mode on the Nav screen. Just touch the Home icon and scroll to the far right of the screen and you will see valet mode.
This only locks the Sync screen so someone else can't play with the settings, mess with your radio stations or view your Nav or phone data.
You still need to program a MyKey or what I like to call a car jacking key.

Exactly, the fob can be Mykeyed to dumb the car down pretty good :like:

I just ordered this fob from a vendor on eBay, about $60 delivered and another $30 to have the key cut locally. Not a bad deal for about $90.
I didn't figure the snake was worth another $80-$90.

Heck, Earl, while you're on FleaBay, pick up a few of those colored, polyethylene FOB covers. I loves mine.

I've forgotten all about the snake...as if there aren't enough around the car anyway, right? :-)
I tried to find the ones you talked about, but the eBay link takes you to the wrong covers, the remote start button is at the top and not in the third position, where it should be.

The local Ford dealership offered to cut the key for $30, which I thought was a little excessive, until I found out it takes a special $7000 machine to cut the keys. The local locksmith wanted $40.

FYI, make sure you keep the key code card that came with the key, without the code, Ford charges the dealer $30 for the code if they have to use your VIN, they can cut a key if you have an original one handy and they don't charge any extra.
