SP080 vs SP083

So it is time for me to buy new shocks and struts and figured I would look into changing the springs possibly while doing the install. I currently have the sp080 installed, no real complaints with them. I wouldn't mind raising the front a little bit but the back needs to stay about the same. I will likely go with the FR track shock/strut kit being as it comes with all the additional stuff to install at the pretty solid price point. That being said, how much of a difference is there between the two BMR options? I don't mind a stiffer ride as long as it is compliant and handles better. The other question is, are there any other parts I should do while in there? I already have the CB005 on the back and not really looking to do the RLCA bushing at this time (I will save that for when I replace rear wheel bearings down the road). Also have the Steeda rear shock mounts (although I don't really think they did anything to be honest).

Car is a daily driver, no track time, but there are a lot of curvy roads in my area (WV) so my normal driving is not straight flat roads. I also have a staggered wheel/tire setup if that matters. 285/35/19 and 325/30/19.

I have the Bilsteins and the SP083's and it's not harsh at all even for a daily. It is definitely stiffer but by no means harsh.

Bilsteins are something to consider. I have used them in the past on different vehicles and I can definitely appreciate the quality of shock/strut they make. I just haven't sat down and added up the cost difference. I know they are more, my question is are they worth X amount over the FR set.

From what I've been told, they're very similar. I got the Bilstein's pretty cheap last year.

It's no contest. As a person who has run both, SP083 will increase your handling. The SP080, no. It's for looks not for function so much.

Thanks! Are there any other springs you would suggest looking at as well, or the SP083's the best all around in your opinion? I am not a brand snob, so I am open to pretty much anything that is available.

The best all around IMO, as far as handling is concerned and if running stock style shocks & struts. It has the highest linear rate and the drop is well engineered to give you function, and just so happens it looks really good too with a slight rake. The drop on the SP083 is about the most I'd do because it doesn't mess with geometry as much. The 1.2" drop on the SP080 is too much and causes handling issues I've noticed firsthand.

What about sway bars or the bumpsteer/anti-roll kit? I get a fair amount of bump steer now with the low drop and wide fronts, but will less drop will it be ok to do without?

It's ok to do without, but it would help. I've driven with these springs before and after. Necessary? No. That said you might be surprised how different it feels after the roll center lateral arms. If you're worried about cost or time, you can definitely leave it for the stage 2 upgrades.

Both drop the car 1.2" in the front.

I run the SP083s with PP front struts and Steeda Pro-actions in the rear. I love the way it looks, rides and handles. I didn't want a monster drop and with my wheel/tire setup it's perfect.

Negative, not the new version. The old Sp083 dropped 1.2, the new version drops only 0.88 in the front and 0.75 rear.

I'm in the same boat. Trying to decide what set up to go with. Another option would be the Ford performance track package. The only difference I found was the rear springs were a little softer than the SP083. I'm not committed yet, but so far LMR has the best price at $1300. The package comes with extra pieces like sway bars, toe links. I've been told it mirrors the gt 350 set up.

It does. The SP083 is closer to the R or GT500 springs. I've driven on the FP track setup too lol. For over a year. On SP083s now. I kept the dampers though.

Umm, didn't know there was a new version.

Are they really that much better.. My car would like stock with only a .88" drop in the front. lol
