I have a 2018 Ford Mustang Ecoboost Premium with 31k miles on it. A couple of weeks ago it wouldn’t start so I went and bought a new battery for $260 and that didn’t fix it because it was actually my alternator which cost me $700. I replaced the alternator a few days ago and everything is fine except my radio and gps. As you can see in the video it doesn’t even acknowledge the audio button, I can’t turn the volume up or down, Bluetooth or Apple CarPlay doesn’t put any sound out of the speakers. I’ve been down the Google rabbit hole so I’ve reset the touchscreen numerous times, did a master reset on it, my car isn’t in “my key” mode, I’ve tried the remote start because it fixed some peoples radio on YouTube, my Sync is up to date.. idk what else to do. Being honest right now, I don’t have anymore money to put towards fixing this issue through a dealership or mechanic shop. If anyone has any ideas of things I can try on my own I’d love to hear them. Thank y’all!

Any error codes? Autoparts stores like Autozone will usually scan for free.

Was it like this right after the repair? What does the autoshop say?

Have you checked for any blown fuses?

No I haven’t had any error codes. Everything was fine after I replaced the battery but when the alternator got replaced is when it stopped working. I haven’t checked for a blown fuse.

I’d try and force a sync update. I believe your system may have received a power surge or lost power during a sync update. Check your version, see if there’s an update. There’s lots of sync info on here as well. That looks like one of two things to me.
Either the firmware got corrupted or the unit got damaged or wet. Likely the former rather than the latter. If not a disconnect or grounding issue.

Check any ground points that may have been disturbed during battery and alternator installation.
Sorry I’m stupid when it comes to things under the hood. Lol! Does ground points mean maybe the battery connectors needs to be checked?

Did you change the alternator yourself?

As I said previously, if it came this way from the shop, have them troubleshoot since it is a symptom of the alternator swap.

You can also try a BMS reset (probably not the issue):

Procedure must be carried out within 10 seconds:
  1. Switch ignition on (engine off)
  2. Pull and release high beam 5 times.
  3. Press and release brake pedal 3 times.
  4. If successful the battery light will flash 3 times within the next 15 seconds
  5. BMS reset completed.
Additionally, I would force an update of Sync by downloading the files to a USB and make it update. Another update method (not Ford official) is CyanLabs' software.

Great Uncle you’ve got there!! I’d do the same for my nephew.

There's your problem.

Ask him if he disconnected the battery when replacing the alternator
Ask him to check your fuses
He did disconnect the battery. I was watching him change it. He is a mechanic at Cadillac and works pit crew on my other uncles race car.

Check your fuses
Disconnect, then re-connect the battery
