Your phone's Nav won't help in the middle of nowhere with no service.

This is true, but it's not a problem for most people. I for one know I don't go anywhere that has no cell service.

One of the main reasons I wanted NAV in the car is because I hate the way all the mounts look in the car. It's just out of place and ruins the interior to me. Phones are better but I still like the big screen and not using my phone draining the battery on it, since I also dislike having a charging cord strung across the car.
You should look at one of the phone mount threads here. Most of us use the scosche magic magnet mount and it's amazing.

If you listen to music that's on your phone, the phone NAV option becomes a pain in the ass with either no instructions or interruptions.
I listen to Spotify and use Waze at the same time. They work seamlessly together. It will lower the volume on the music when it's giving you directions.

I go outside of cell service plenty and am thankful for it at times. Ahh the beauty of living out in the swamps.

I detest phone mounts. Tacked on crap with wires running. Looks terrible to me. My opinion but again, those aren't for everyone. I'll pay the money for a nav to not have that crap in my car.

My apple map and directions work same when using any steaming music, or music on my phone. Exactly as you say.

Everyone has their preference. Just providing a counterpoint.

I do wish the sync and phones worked better together. Like if sync could just be a throughput for the device.

Try using the 'Find an Address' voice command.

It will respond with 'In New Jersey Say The Address And City'

You respond for example '123 Ocean Boulevard Atlantic City'

(Note: do not repeat the state name)

Within 10 seconds it will have the address up on the screen for you to say 'Set As Destination' or save to your favorites for future reference.

It also will advise you of traffic incidents via the Travel Link from Sirius that you have for 5 years to use.

I like the Nav in the car when I've used it (along with Sirius traffic updates). Yes it's slower than the phone but it's essentially the same one I use (Nokia's Here!).

Auto manufacturers have requirements, cost goals and deployment barriers on in car electronics that cause them to be generations behind the curve on comparative entertainment hardware when they release. Not that they couldn't design an upgrade-able core unit to get around this if it was a priority. That and their culture isn't one that cares about the entertainment experience yet, they care about the car and the other stuff is gadgets they have to add to get us to buy them. They likely minimize the amount of funding for these systems beyond checking off a list of features -- which is why nearly any aftermarket system will crush the Shaker Pro system for much less money.

I also expect SYNC3 to be worse unless they hired a team with deep experience with the QNX platform. I.e., it's not the guitar that makes the music.

I use here maps and download the maps... matter of fact, I sometimes use a phone that has no service (not had service for six months or so).

I use wifi to update maps, addresses, etc.

I have a windows phone but the Here app is also on android and iphone... although, not sure if you can download maps on those devices.

The nav in the mustang is terrible.. I only use it when my gas light comes on and I'm at a place I don't know... it will show the nearest gas stations. That is cool. Outside of that it is terrible.

Oh, and when the sun hits the screen it washes out (when my top is down... which is almost all the time). don't have that issue with my phone (or if I did, I can move the phone).

My advice to the OP.... realize the nav sucks and move on to purchase a mount in your car to hold your phone. I have a magnet one and it works great. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I608BJ8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00

I agree with an earlier post that I don't like the look of a mount or the wires running across the dash. Nothing against cell gps, my Jeep doesn't have nav and I use Waze all the time. Just prefer to keep the mustang (when I get it!) nice and clean. Looking forward to seeing how sync 3 does with Nav

Wow, just stopped by to read some other post besides the GT350 and ran into this.

The phone apps have an advantage in that they are created for an optimal experience. Designers know they have to get it right or their app doesn't get used. While our car apps are part of a package that may or may not get updates let alone experience updates. No attack on either as both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Phones are great until you loose reception... Happened more than once to me on trips. As annoying as typing the address is the Nav has been more reliable for me on long trips. No matter what service provider you have you're bound to loose it somewhere...

In Ontario using your Phone in the car will cost you $390 and three demerit points.

I agree that entering a destination into the MFT system can be a bit slow. If only they allowed addresses from your phonebook to be used to set a destination, 97% of the need for data entry would go away

all you guys in the States who don't like the entry on the mft, there is an app (don't remember the name) you can get - enter the address in the app and it beams it to mft when you get in (or are near the car) and you are ready to go.

Sure phone navigation is more up to date (and yes, waze is very cool), but I'll take having the 8 inch screen and give up some functionality vs. having to always mount my phone and deal with a much smaller screen.

Address entry aside (and it really isn't that bad, especially if you enter via voice), I don't understand how people think the actual navigation sucks.

The buttons have a horrible latency. I found it usable with the voice commands. It sucks in my wife's Fusion even with voice command, but the Mustang's voice command works 90% of the time...

I bet it will be awsome, as I am very happy with it on MFT.

You should try downloading your maps... just read on android you can download. So.. don't need an internet connection.

Edit: even with apple iphone you can download maps... if you use a Blackberry you are SOL. lol

My phone is 5 inches... larger than my external nav I purchased years ago... and I see in use in other cars today.

The mount I posted works with a magnet on the back of your phone... so easy to mount. Never falls off.... no "wires" either. Only time I have to charge is when I go on a very long road trip. And then it does not matter because you will have to charge as well. lol

Are you saying to download a map? and read it just as we did before navigation came along? on a very tiny phone screen? If I understand you correctly....That is a terrible idea my friend. If I am wrong in what you are saying...My apologies.
If I am correct, then why not get a road atlas, and read it in a much larger text, so you can see it? Or a simple road map for the region you are traveling in.
