I agree that phone nav is better, but I really like having it in the MFT. I have had a lot of car factory nav systems and I would say Fords is one of the best. My car did not have nav but I paid to have the mod done and it's not added. Works great for my use.

Lets see... Sync NAV costs about $1k. Its slow and difficult to use. Smart phone gps is FREE, always up to date and easy to use. I can see a clear winner here. Just get a phone dock for you car and set it before you leave. I usually set my destination before leaving the house.

Your phone's Nav won't help in the middle of nowhere with no service.

It does if you set the route before your leave.

That wasn't telling. Telling would be, "Stop telling everyone what to do." or "You must stop telling people what to do." Mine was a suggestion.
I gotcha. I did not mean it to come off like that.

One of the main reasons I wanted NAV in the car is because I hate the way all the mounts look in the car. It's just out of place and ruins the interior to me. Phones are better but I still like the big screen and not using my phone draining the battery on it, since I also dislike having a charging cord strung across the car.

If you listen to music that's on your phone, the phone NAV option becomes a pain in the ass with either no instructions or interruptions.

I like the way the phone turns down the music when giving driving instructions. That said I only use nav when driving places that are far from home; I could see the music interruptions being annoying on shorter trips where you know most of the route.

I don't have issues with inputting addresses but my main issue with the NAV is the routing. It seems it likes to take back road streets and cutting through neighborhoods instead of staying on a main street for a bit longer to make a turn.

Google Maps has an option where you can turn off audible alerts, and it doesn't butt into your music. Waze is the same I believe.

I think the reason for this is because it tries to find the shortest possible route, even if it may not be the fastest. In my 08 Escape, it would give you an option to use either "shortest" or "fastest" route.
If I know the general area of the city I am going to, or if going on a long trip, I usually ignore the Navigation, and go the way I know is best just to start out my journey. It always "recalculates" according to your location, so you can't get lost.....You can then start relying on the Navigation at any point you see fit. It can get a bit irritating hearing it telling you to "make a legal U turn" though. But that stops as you go along. (unless you are just really going the wrong way for a long time).
