I'm hoping to have the best of both worlds! My 15Gt PP SC'ed for those days you just want to go straight and fast, it's putting down a little over 600rwhp. And now my GT350 TrackPack for those track days.

Different strokes indeed. If I had my way, I'd have a Charger 392 as a DD.

Here's the way I look at it. Cars are grouped into many different factors. The Shelby falls between a bargain car and a drivers car. People tend to put things into categories based on price. It's a 60k car so its competition is the Corvette and the Hellcat. This is not the case at all. Cars like the Nissan GTR are all about numbers, performance, and a bargain. Hellcat is the same way. However, after driving both these, they do not offer the same kind of euphoria the Shelby does. The GTR is an all out world beater and was designed that way in the beginning. But I felt so disconnected from it. It did everything for me and I wanted a car that would challenge me daily. The Hellcat felt incomplete due to the lack of tire. Sure when you get on the freeway and punch it the thing moves at an alarming rate but it was so nerve wracking in the city. I judge cars based on how they make me feel sitting in traffic or doing the speed limit. If a car is only fun going balls to the wall it's not something I'll purchase because I rarely drive hard on public roads. I took a chance on the Shelby because of a gut feeling about how I would love it. Honestly, I could care less if it beat the Z/28 because it didn't make me feel special. I drove one as well, and when I got in it I looked around and thought, "this is all you get for 75k?" It just looked awful and I would have hated driving it. I got in the gt350 and said "all this for only 60k? What a bargain!" If you are one of those that bases their purchase on numbers alone, that is totally fine. I'd hate to be in your shoes because every year something better comes along that surpasses your car. As for feel, connection, and all out addiction causing, nothing will surpass the GT350. Every time I get asked what do I think of the car I say "It is a sweetheart" and it really is. Sorry for the long post but it gets annoying when people classify cars into places they don't belong.

A terrific commentary and from my standpoint I agree with absolutely everything that you said.

Personally I purchase high performance cars based on a pure love and passion for what each vehicle represents in terms of looks, sound, feel and performance.

My first automotive experience/relationship started way back in the late 1960's when I purchased a '67 Mercury Cougar and came equipped with a 289 4V and a 3 speed automatic transmission. It was not a fast car but I had fun with it at the drag strip and the best time I could muster was a 17.08 which is ridiculously slow buy todays standards but again that was my first taste of the Blue Oval brand and because it was my first car so it was very special and little did I know at the time that I was going to be hooked on the Blue Oval brand for the rest of my life.

Over many years I have been fortunate to purchase many other high performance vehicles such as XKE's, RS/SS Camaro's, 440 6BBL Road Runners, 340 Dusters, 370Z's, M3's, M Roadsters but I always end up coming back to the Blue Oval brand and Mustang because of the way these cars make me feel.

For me there is a strong feeling and connection with Mustang and for all of the Ford Performance Team in Dearborn and Flat Rock.

Every time that I step into and drive one of my Boss 302's or my Shelby GT350 cars there no other automotive brand or model that makes me feel very special and allows me to personally connect with the heart and soul of each of these cars. The look, the sound, the smell, the feel and the performance of Mustang is unlike anything that I have encountered over ~50 years in the car hobby.

Having said that I am sure that given the opportunity to drive the new Ford GT this new supercar could take me to a place that I could have never imagined and only in my dreams!!!

To hit a 12.7 in an s550 it's not that easy with all the wheel hop.

12.4 is easily attainable in the gt350 and the shops are running lower times closer to 12s with good launching and well prepped tracks.

194 looks and no reply.

So, I did some bird doging on the interweb myself.

GT350

0-60 - 4.3
1/4 - 12.5
Lat Acc - 1.10g
weight - 3796

GT350R

weight - 3710

GT/PP

0-60 - 4.4
1/4 - 12.7
Lat Acc - .96g
weight - 3825

Interesting.
I'm sure someone has run a 12.7 in the GT, but looking around most magazine tests show 13.0-13.2 for the GT. 12.5 is pretty close to what most people are getting out of the GT350. Ultimately, they are very different animals. I have had the pleasure of driving both and I don't feel bad for a second of spending almost 20k extra for the gt350.

Ultimately either is an awesome car and there isn't a bad choice.

I've enjoyed many German performance cars on the street and track, and currently race a BMW. I've also enjoyed many Japanese performance cars and moved into the GT350 from a BRZ. So, I'd like to think I have a fairly broad perspective on where the GT 350 "fits" in the spectrum of performance and sports cars (and even luxury cars).

Personally, I've long wanted a V8 muscle car, but I also wanted a car that is good everywhere, at everything. The 350 is exactly that car. It is a fast corner carver with excellent straight line speed and manners. It is comfortable and quiet when you want it to be, and cruises brilliantly on the highway or even at slower speeds in urban areas (I drive in the city every day); tall gears help with this all around goodness. Then, when you want to get nasty, click it into Sport mode and hold on! It's a real Jekyll / Hyde dynamic. I also like that you can independently adjust power, steering and suspension levels to dial the car in just the way you want it on a particular road / driving situation.

I've never been a 0-60 or 1/4 mile driver, so those stats only interest me as general reference points. Bottom line for me, Ford built a terrific GT platform that does just about everything brilliantly. I can forgive the paint issues and corner-cutting on some of the material and assembly choices because once you fire her up and get behind the wheel, all of that well and truly goes away.

The full exhaust is intoxicating, without being annoying or stupidly loud. The transmission is slick and smooth. The balance is spot on. The car's presence is substantial. It turns heads and captures the imagination. When I was at the track this past weekend, there were two other GT350s whose owners were enjoying their first time on track, and McClaren, Ferrari, Porsche, GTR, and Audi R-8 owners were clamoring for rides and some exhaust audio enjoyment. So, yeah, the car has made an impact.

I might not beat someone to the next stop light . . . Ask me if I care . . .

I just watched Motorweek earlier and between the GT, the SS and the Challenger, the Mustang came in last.

Ford has its work cut out.
Don't buy the critic sh!t, Ford is pushing 3 shift production and are having a hard time keeping an 80 day supply. Ford is working their asses off...

Team Camaro? Not so much...

Rumor is only 1/2 of last month sales were 6th Gen's

At this point, if Ford updated the Mustang, it would ONLY be to silence critics and media.

Consumers are not following the critics on this. I'm afraid it's nothing more than a product push to get Ford to move, so they can keep their job in criticism.

"Social" Media as the old school media swallowing pretty hard. It's fun to see even political and entertainment media shunned.

The Automotive media doesn't really need shunned, it was never really taken seriously...

The mustang is slowest of the bunch with least hp. It also has the least options and tech. Ford def needs to do something to at least keep there customers happy.

that motorweek article had by far the slowest times i've seen for a mustang gt and scat pack challenger and nailed the times for the SS. it's not accurate. The scat pack and ss should be near identical for the manuals in straight line performance with the gt slightly behind. as far as tech, the gt premium has everything all the others do except a sunroof and HUD option. It's also much cheaper than the other two comparably equipped. Especially with how much ford takes off the car.

Nothing is going to happen to the GT until 2018. Hopefully then they add some additional performance.
