You're much better off to sell the car yourself rather than trade it in. You will lose a sizeable chunk of money otherwise.
In my experience it depends on how much sales tax credit you can get by trading it in. Of course, this varies depending on what state you're in.

New car vs paid off car + set of tires. New GT will have more expensive insurance also. If you really want the car go for it. If you want the most financial sense answer it is to wait. Nothing wrong with wanting the new car if you don't mind paying the money for it. Current GT is a great car. The engine is tried and true so no reason mechanically to wait.

Yep, OP if you try to trade it in with bald tires the dealer is going to ding you on the trade-in price anyway ... so regardless a set of new tires won't hurt either way.
hmm, I didn't know they look at the tires too

You only live once bro. Every moment you spend putting off your purchase is a moment you're not in a Mustang. At some point you just gotta say YOLO and do it. There will *always* be better versions coming out, if you are waiting for that you will be waiting all the time.

Well, now that you guys have almost convinced me to pull the trigger. My next question is 2016 or 2017 ?

Trade in because of tires? Come on, that's retarded. I could see that as a possibility if your car was worth something like $1,000 on trade-in (like mine) but not a 4 year old car.

Wait for the 2018MY. If not you'll probably regret going in 'too soon, joonya.'

for the record. I traded my wife's car in and it needed all 4 tires. On original tires at 56k miles and all they did was consider 4 tires $500 off the trade value I negotiated up. traded 2011 in on a brand new 2015 car in nov 14... I said, deal! It wouldn't even be worth the time or the money to put tires on it and she got what she wanted.

Of course they will. If they think it needs new tires they will have to put money into the car to sell it. So they will naturally give you less trade-in based on how much money they need to put into it to sell. As mentioned above, if they give you less on trade by about what it would cost for new tires, then it's a wash and might as well try the trade-in with worn out tires.
