I am considering buying a 2019 GT350. The car is definitely not an R model but has red outlines on the stripe, red badges on the front and rear, a red badge on the serial number plate as well as a red stripe and mustang on the steering wheel. Red Brembos also. Should I be concerned it is not what it should be? Thanks.

Without anymore details such as miles, price etc, it sounds like it’s been customized.

You did not mention if it has the larger splitter or wing. There should not be a mustang on the steering wheel or anywhere on the rest of the car. Do the seats have red stitching?

My mistake, it is a red cobra on the steering wheel. Splitter and wing are stock gt350. 14000 miles, $62000, red cue ball shift knob, GT350 Recaro seats no red stitching non-R, PS 4S tires, red GT350 stripes along lower panels wheel well to wheel well. Under the hood it has red valve covers. I do not have any numbers from the engine etc. I am new to Shelby but all this has me concerned.

Also do t recall if it has the carbon fiber rims. From what you describe it is most definitely not an R.

The lower side stripes and red valve covers are definitely not OEM GT350. Does it have an "engine built by" sticker on the passenger's side valve cover?

It might be worth putting the VIN into a VIN Decoder:

https://www.fordpro.com/en-us/fleet-vehicles/vin-decoder-and-guides/

Just to see what it was built as.

You are concerned it isn't what it should be, but you know it's not being sold as an R. What's the concern?

Just get the VIN number. It'll tell you everything you need to know

That it's GT in GT350 clothing
The only thing that seems poser is the red calipers, unless of course the car is red? I guess a picture of the car would clear up a lot. lol

Whatever it is, just steer clear of somebody else's project.

Agree with running the VIN to see what it was actually built as. Sounds like it’s a bunch of cosmetic stuff that the prior owner did. Is there an actual chassis number on the plate on the passenger side dash or was it replaced with the red badge? Does the letter on the plate match the model year of the car?

If it’s being sold at a Ford Dealer ask for a complete OASIS report. That will tell you many aspects about the vehicle, it’s true As Built, any warranty repair history, any non-warranty repairs/maintenance, if it was a BuyBack, etc etc etc….

VIN check = done…and this is not some BS used car operation it’s actually Ford so I doubt any foul play. That said, sounds like a car I’d personally avoid unless the price is so insane it’s worth some risk. I know I’m generalizing here, but some of those mods suggest to me that the prior owner had different taste and potentially different experience / maturity level that I’d want in a prior owner of a car like this. Not trying to offend anyone has done stuff like this as I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with it, I just prefer to buy cars that bone stock (or mostly stock) with some tasteful OEM+ things done that tell me the prior owner was part of the enthusiast community (catch can, rock guards, jacking rails, etc) and not someone who traded in a Civic Si for it and revved it out to redline daily after cold starting it. I know I’m making generalizations here, but that’s something I feel you have to do in this position…so unless the car is a steal, I’d find a different one.
