Shock and strut recommendations

Hey all,

I've tried reading everything I can find here, and I just keep getting more and more confused.

I'm looking to upgrade my stock PP shocks and struts. I run about 1 autocross event a month, and this is my daily driver. I plan on slotting the struts before installation, and will be staying in FS. I'd like to definitely increase handling for autocross, but also keep it comfortable enough that my girlfriend doesn't complain about the ride being too harsh.

So far I've seen recommendations for Koni's, as well as the Steeda adjustable, and the Steeda non-adjustable. Naturally, I'd like to keep this as inexpensive as possible, and I'd like an idea of what to look for with the upcoming Black Friday sales.

Just to point out the obvious, I will be staying with the stock PP springs.

Highly recommend Steeda adjustable. Good road manners, can rip up a track no problem. I did very well with AutoX recently, as well, even on Cooper tires.

Stock springs you can get away with Steeda non-adjustable, too.

Can you change sway bars? Get some Steeda or whoever bars to keep it from rolling and it'll help increase effective spring rate.

My personal preference is the Koni Yellows.

Konis for autox (and they're pretty darn good for daily use too). You'll want adjustables either way so you can dial them stiffer for competition or high speed driving and then back down for comfortable daily commuting. I run at 3/10ths stiffness in the front for the street and about 1.5/10 on the rears. For autox or track use I dial up +3/10ths on all corners (so 6/10 front, 4.5/10 rear).

I also like the Strano rear swaybar for autox. For stock tires probably start with the lower swaybar setting which is only about 30% stiffer than stock. If you've got grippy tires like RE71Rs I think the stiffer of the two settings feels good to me.

I am running the steeda adjustables. I love them. But you also can't go wrong with the konis. As for the sway bar, I'd go with the rear if you are still running a staggered tire set up. I am running a modified front bar with my square tire setup in f street.

I have the Strano rear bar already, and will be getting RE71R's in the spring when I finally kill off the Pirelli's.

Right now I'm hunting for the best Black Friday deal I can find on Koni's or Steeda adjustables...

Sounds good you will love not having the pirelli's it really changes the way the car drives on course.

I got some prices on Koni's, and talked with Rodney at Steeda - their autocross expert. He told me Steeda spent a year developing the adjustable shocks, and then another 6 months playing with the settings to get good all-around settings. He said he also asks people if they go to the track with the intent to play with shock settings, or if they go to the track to drive. With what I'm doing, the 95% solution is going to work fine.

Steeda fixed are on the way, with Black Friday pricing (30% off), and free shipping.

It will be until late January before I get a chance to install them, and I'll slot them before that.
