Hi there

In my S197 Mustang it had the Shaker 1000 system. Which I thought was actually OK, I was happy with it.

Those of you who now have your S550's how do you find the audio system, good quality? Plenty of bass if and when required?

Those who also owned the S197 is the S550 Hi-Fi system better in every way?

I loved it initially because it has nice booming bass compared to the cars I've cross shopped. Once you get past that you'll hear the muddiness, and eventually the bass will start falling short too. I am by no means an audiophile myself, but if you're asking about sound quality, I would bet that you will want to upgrade sooner or later.

How does Shaker Pro compare to the standard stereo?

I'm a bit surprised by the above comments to be honest, for me the Shaker audio system is one of the better car audio systems I've ever heard. At the very least on a par with the Bose systems I've had in some of my cars over the years.

You're joking, right ? It is light years behind Bose that I had in a Mazda or JBL in my wife's Toyota. And those are not a high end systems. It isn't horrible, but it is very very average.

No not joking, really clear sound, good quality bass, no distortion even when cranked up nice and loud.

I've had harman kardon, bose, jbl and loads of other systems including custom builds and it stands up well to them IMO

Not that impressed tbh,I even had to count the speakers because I thought I had paid for it and been stitched up.I can't hear anything from the back until I open the boot and feel that the rear speakers are on.
Unless I'm doing some thing wrong all the sound seems to come from the front.

Might be worth messing with the sound equalisation settings? and the balance of noise (Same goes for everyone else). Then seeing, you're still generally new to the sound system so it's worth having a little play around?

Granted, i've got this on my car, but forced upon me :headbonk:

I had the Bose system in my old RX8 - to be honest I wasn't impressed - the Sony system in the wife's Ford Kuga was way better. I'd be looking for much better these days if I was paying for upgraded audio.

Sounds like you need to have a look at the audio settings. I get very clear bass from the sub and all round audio. Have a look at the DSP setting which can be changed from driver to all round (or something like that). In driver mode it sounds terrible, I think because it thinks the driver is on the left! However in all round mode it sounds perfect.

I'm pretty happy with my Shaker system. Go play around with the bass and treble settings a bit.

I think what waxdaddy says is correct
move it from driver to all round and it sounds better
also the front dash speaker is more prominent than the side door speakers which sounds a bit 70ish cheap centre hifi
you have to have the bias very much to the rears to make it sound equal which is not right
the harmen kardon system in my range rover vogue is miles better but that was a £2k add on
if I would have had the choice on the mustang I would pay extra but then the shaker system was meant to be the premium hifi anyway
it is only a £33K car though so I guess you get what you pay for
i'm not really disappointed with it just putting my opinions in

I like the shaker pro in my mustang, its way better than the mach460 in my 02 GT.
I think the audio quality has more to do with the with source than the speakers themselsves. I listen mostly from my USB.

I do USB as well. I suppose the music genre has to do with it as well? I primarily listen to rock, occasional hip hop, plenty of EDM, and the odd classical piece every now and then.

I'm seriously contemplating upgrading the cones to see if it helps.
