I always stay away from overpriced dealers unless its warranty work. The quality of the mechanics is not better than a well known independent shop. I worked at Ford, especially maintenance stuff is done by the newbies. The experienced techs many of the times supervise the helpers to their work and maybe they work on the some of the more detailed stuff like installing....shimming diffs, trannys, engine work etc.

I just asked for a price on changing out my Transmission (Tremac 6MT) and diff. Got back $500 and $300. I don’t think they would take more than a couple of hours, even for me.

Most shops charge by “book” hours and then expect their mechanics to work 2-3 Book hours per hour so they are getting a lot more than $225/hr.

Checked my bill they worked 84 minutes which came out to be 320 bucks.to me an hour and half seems low to change all the fluids coolant.brake.oil and differential .In my younger life it would take me over an hour to just do brake fluids.if course I didn't have a lift.oh well it's done and ford has record of it wor my 10vyear ford warranty.i even had them note my tranny didn't need changing. I only have 8400miles on my 19 gt pp1. Oh to be young again

Techs make a living by being able to beat customer pay book times since they get screwed on warranty times by 50% or more in terms of what warranty time gives for a job versus what time it actually takes to do the job correctly so its fixed right the first time with no comeback. Comebacks you are working for free labor.

Back when there were 30k services on cars that included, tune ups, all fluid flushes , brake service and tire balance/rotations etc my dealer charged 9 hours labor and I could do the job in 1.5 to 2 hours so made good money but on warranty job that paid 2 hours it would take 4+ hours to do it if all parts were in stock, if you had to order parts then you have to deal with moving vehicle out/in of shop bay storing removed parts etc all of which warranty does not account for that time in their warranty time rate.

So basically, you always lose on warranty work but make it up on customer pay work, the problem is today there is very little customer pay work compared to warranty work so it just about impossible to make more hours per week than you actually are there working. My work week was 45 hours per week and an average week I could turn 60+ hours of book time, some of best weeks were at or close to 100 hours, but after about mid 90s that got to point of barely ever making 45 hours of book time and average of high 30 to 40 hours per week.

Dealers will not keep/employ good techs under those conditions and is why I got out in late 90s.

How many miles on your car? Seems early for coolant and diff (assuming you dont have 150,000 miles)

My son's 08 Mustang GT had the (5R55S) transmission crap out on him at 155K miles. Could not find anyone local I would trust to rebuild, much less pay for. Bought an ATK reman tranny from Jegs with 3yr warranty for roughly $2500. Shopped around local shops to remove old tranny and install reman tranny...$1000! Just couldn't deal with that so my son and I did the R&R ourselves. Had some good father son, car repair bonding time together. Also now have a nice transmission jack that will allow me to upgrade the factory clutch in my 18 GT if it ever comes to that. I figure doing it ourselves saved roughly 50% over what taking the car and dropping off at a transmission shop to do everything.

Fully understand wanting to keep maintenance up so no risk to warranty coverage. It is just a shame that repair labor rates have gotten so ridiculous.

I guess they changed it for 2020? Mine makes no mention of time for the diff, and says 10 years for coolant.
