I couldn't help but notice you corrected your current vehicle description from family minivan (for know) to family minivan (for now). I almost thought ''Doesn't speak well for the fate of man''. I'm hoping you can explain this...Anywho(sic), TTFN...

Zelek, I forgot to mention I need to be around $17,000.00 OTD, so of course purchasing used from private party would be typically my best bet.
At that price for a used Mazda6 you're ruling out the new 2.5 turbo engine which leaves you with the wheezer NA 2.5. My wife loved the ride and handling of the Mazda6 (for a midsize sedan) but even with at manual the 2.5L engine just doesn't have enough guts to get out of its own way. She traded it early for a Focus ST and she's much happier. She doesn't plan to find out if it's "fragile".

This happened after I made a complete stop, then didn’t make it out of the intersection of said 4 way stop.
Let me break it down for you Flare65 In regards to the fragility. I travelled approximately 20 feet before impact while accelerating from a complete stop. Sooooo (sic) if I’m driving a slower accelerating vehicle, my velocity at impact would be less. Therefore, from the same scenario, one would expect less damage in a car that produces less BHP and torque. With the Mazda 6, it’s also 500 Lbs lighter.
I'm confused, were you stopped in the middle of the intersection trying to avoid a head on collision? Or did you accelerate too hard and run into someone? It sounds like an accident that could have been avoided. I'm not sure why you are down on the mustang for being fragile, in general lighter objects sustain greater damage on impact. Main thing is that you sustained 0 damage, which in a lighter car could have been a different story.

You only had three options? You couldn't just get another one?

You don't need a 335hp car, you NEED a 460hp car...
I guess 460 is ok? You gotta start somewhere?

Funny that you bring up fragile. I was trying to inch my mustang into my garage on day one, but hadn't properly cleaned it out so it was a super tight fit. Instead of killing the clutch for the last 5 inches, I got out to give it a nudge from behind. This is something I'd often do with my old Mustang. So I get behind it, put my thigh up against the rear bumper, and fall forward as it practically sinks into the car. Right then and there I realized I'd be screwed if I ever got into an accident.

The other car had a right turn signal on. I accelerate through the intersection looking left then think to myself, I should look forward, and bam!

Oh, now I see! Your V6 Mustang is so powerful it's just too much for you. If you were driving a less ferocious beast that didn't accelerate so hard at 500 lbs lighter you'd be able to drive away unscathed. Totally understandable.

Guys, the key words were “others” and “minivan”. So if the guy is a family man give him a break. He scratched an itch and wants a more conventional car now to haul the family around. Hey, it happens

If he is worried about safety for the family a minivan works, but whatever. Do what you have to do...

If you want a less fragile vehicle I would recommend a pickup.

If you just want something fun to drive and with lower power, I would recommend an MX-5 by far over a Mazda6. You want to have the front engine rear drive if it's at all possible. And cars with the engine in the front that are RWD are built stronger than a front wheel drive only car. It's out of necessity - the body needs more reinforcement when the engine is in the front but the drive wheels are in the rear.

Obviously it's your money and your decision, but I think you should at least try some RWD options rather than going to a FWD vehicle. Heck - look at a Challenger. They are bigger and beefier than the Mustang, so you should at least have the feeling of the car being less fragile.

If air bag deployed it will be totaled. If not it may be fixable although value will be diminished. If totaled it can be also repaired but will carry a salvage title until inspected by the state, then can carry a rebuilt title and be registered. If it is totaled you will get the payout from insurance company, they will not proceed with repair and carrying a rebuilt title.

Rebuilt titles are not good in general. The vehicle may be OK and repaired properly but they are difficult to sell and banks will not provide a loan for a rebuilt title. so need to pay cash.

The word "fragility"; you clearly don't understand what it actually means. You're doing mental gymnastics to rationalize something, and you're reaching for straws in that process.

Everything you wrote above has 0 to do with being fragile, or "fragility".
