SO I had my buddy who knows what hes doing bleed the line to make sure there were no bubbles. Still the exact same CHT as before the swap. 200-210 on normal driving on a 70 degree day. Oh well, not sure what to do next. I guess just be content with the OEM temps?
I had the same issue... So if your temps go down on the deceleration... you still have air pockets. One thing I didn't even think to check when I had issues was to turn the heater the max temp and let it run while burping the hoses. I must have had a lot of air in the heater core. Mine now runs around 190 sitting in a long drive through line and 80 degrees outside.

Hope that helps...

And here I am with my 160F, never seeing temps over 195 here in SoFla during rush hour.

Time to replace that 170F stat if it's giving you that much trouble. I suspect the 170F folks won't be as impressed with their temps once summer shows up.

Well since many folks installed this t-stat last summer I'm sure we'll all be fine.

Engines won't blow up or anything but every moment over 200 is crucial at the track. But for commuting and grocery getting the 170F should do just fine. Def better than the stock anyway.

everyone except for you seemed to run higher temps with the 160 than the 170, myself included. there's a thread about it.

Have you noticed at what temp your fans kick on?
That's a good question. I'm pretty sure the thermostat is mostly to prevent the water temp from getting lower than you want, not higher than you want. When the fans kick in will more impact on how hot things get and even that only at speeds where the fans push air faster than the road speed does.

I've bled my cooling system several times and my CHT's will be ok for a week or two at around 207 degrees but then after about two weeks they go back up to the 220 degree range. Sitting in traffic is not a problem it's only when driving up hills. I'm almost sure I don't have a head gasket issue because I'm not getting any oil or coolant where it's not supposed to be. I'm going to try a 170 degree thermostat and some water wetter. We'll see how that works.

Just got back from a nice long highway cruise. CHT showed a consistent 220F with it going as high as 227F. Temps were quick to drop once I goosed it a bit, however I'm starting to wonder if my Evenflo thermostat is just a pile of crap. With everyone running temps at or below 200F, I'm wondering if something is wrong. My temp gauge shows left of center and no heating problems.

The optimal config is to have the fans tuned to come on earlier to truly see maximum benefits from stat.

I have not seen CHTs over 195 with my 170. That includes stop and go traffic for 40 minutes in 89 degree weather with an auto, which has the standard radiator. Not sure if the trans cooler is built into the radiator or separate but if it is built in then it is less efficient than even the non PP manual radiator.
