I care. I'm not quite sure how this thread has eluded my scrutiny for so long, but that's a pretty good analysis.I might just do that myself.
Looking at Ford's homepage, the specification page of the Mustang specifically, it's pretty clear what the characteristics of all 3 engines are going to be.
I am sure you guys know all these by heart, lol, but to me the bore / stroke numbers of all these ford engines were new.
The V6 is a revver, the EB a stroker and the Coyote is square.
The V6 is as light as the EB.
Everything points to the V6 the more I look into this.
Just in case someone cares:
- The V6 is the cheapest - nice, right?
- The V6 is a proven motor that's run up millions of miles in customer hands and no major flaws reported.
- The V6 in NA, which has its qualities driving wise as well as being inherently reliable.
- The V6 is damn near as light as the EB.
- The V6 is a revver by design and looking at piston velocities, there should be NO reason to not rev it past 8k, which is sweet.
- There is no reason a V6 car shouldn't be able (depending on driver) beat the other two at a low speed event like AutoX, given decent tires and perhaps springs / shocks / arb's.
Well, come Monday I'll find out, but from the looks of it, I'll be finding me a base car with 0 options. Because I want 3.73 gears, not 3.55s and the little spoiler that comes with the "meh" 18" wheels and the power seat (which I don't want) looks absolutely awful.
I particularly agree with you about the power seat. I don't want one. And every time I come to a decision, V6 w/3.55, I have to reconsider because I have to take the damn power seat and tht means I cant put an amplifier under there and that I have to sit higher.
By the time you've put in the 3.55, you've paid $1400 for it and the car is no less expensive than an eB. So, you have to get the base. Now, I'm all about that base, but the 3.55 is what pulls the torque curve back to be advantageous at stop light speeds. I don't think I really want the 3.15, though I'd have to live with it to be sure. Changing to a 3.73 is expensive and problematic. You'll get no warranty coverage. Maybe on your whole drive train, I don't know. And if the wrench screws it up, you're toast. Those things vibrate if they're not installed just right. The eB comes with a 3.31 which would have been nice on the V6. But it's $1400 for the 3.55. You get some crumby 18"ers and a damn power seat.
The eB has a very flat first gear and is not fun in modest suburban contexts, IMO. I don't drag race and I really don't want to start modifying cars like most of the EgoBoosters do, that's all they talk about and that seems to be the main point of the eB engine, other than a small mpg savings, which is not significant if you plan on using the boost at all, because power costs gas. So, other than feeling some kumbaya with the Europeans, what's the other main point? Real driving is around town or in the country, not on a race course. O to 60 means very little because of the fellow in front of you and teh cop on the hill and 1/4 mile means nothing. 0 to 30 means something. 5 to 45 means something. And I suspect the V6 3.55 wins those, but nobody's talking.
