Here we go.

I have 22 responses at this time.

1. 8 cars have no AC issues with an average mileage of 20k miles.
2. 14 cars have AC issues with an average mileage of 20k miles. The following only applies to cars with failures.
3. 50/50, cars were manufactured in 2015 or 2016. One was in 2018; compressor - pin hole leak.
4. 11 are 5.0s, 2 ecobewsts, 1 5.2.
5. Most failures range in the 10 - 20k mile range
6. 4 instances needed a new compressor, 3 needed an evaporator, 4 needed more than 1 part.
7. 5 cars had two failures, averaging 30k miles, resulting in a new compressor or more refrigerant.
8. 8 cars have dual zone climate and 9 the performance pack.

Typical responses given for indications during first failure was:

Warm air from driver vent, AC weak, musty smell, squealing compressor/strange noise.

Pretty interesting so far. I dont think im missing any data points.

27 Responses now.

1. 12 Cars have no issues with an average mileage of 16,830. Highest mileage is 43900, lowest is 1050.
2. 15 cars suffer from a first time issue. First failure occurred at an avg 20,666 mi. 7 cars had a manufacturing year of 2015, 6 had a manu year of 2016, 1 2017 and 1 2018.
3. 13 cars are v8s, 2 cars are 2.3t. 9 are manual, 6 are auto. 11 have dual zone climate, 4 do not. 10 have performance pack, 5 do not.
4. 4 had a blown compressor only. 3 had condensor with other parts. 5 had a failed evaporator (1 had more than the evap replaced), 3 had just refridgerant topped off.
5. 6 cars had a second failure at an avg 28,999 mi. Second failure cars ranged from 15k miles up to 60k.
6. Cause of a second failure was a rock chip, which doesnt count. 1 had a blown compressor, 1 needed new lines/valves, 2 needed extra refridgerant. 1 gave no info.

Just eyeballing it quickly.

If you have a car manufactured 2015 or 2016, with a V8, with a manual transmission, Performance pack and Dual Zone climate with approx 20k miles, you have a 50/50 chance at encountering issues.

But remember, correlation does not equal causation.

I did find a mistake in my survey, I should have asked the people without issues what their year of manufacture is.

Who can sticky this?
you can reach out to a forum MOD and they can probably merge it with one of the already “stuck” A/C posts.

Added my recent compressor failure. I haven't done the repair yet because I noticed the dealership that I took my car to was trying to overcharge me on the compressor only by $550. So I took the car back and need to find a decent mechanic to give me a proper diagnosis of the issue. The dealership just said that the compressor is broken, your AC leaked out but never said from where it leaked out.
