He probably means the M235i, which was slower than a 2012 GT around Willow Springs. Both were driven by Randy Probst.

2012 GT: 1:25.77
2014 M235i: 126.37
BMW will be releasing an M2 at some point. The M235i is not a "real" M car. It's basically the 2-series with the M-sport package. Great car, but no GT killer. However if the M2 had the power-plant from the current M3/M4 it will definitely pose a serious threat to the s550.

I'm willing to bet, if we can find a bare M4 shell (with some good pics on the pans, top and bottom), we might get an idea where it's going...

Just a thought...

I'd like to get detailed shots of the S550 chassis first. And not chopped to pieces, the complete car.

There is some stuff from these links but I don't know how much you can tell from it.

And here is tons of stuff for the 3 Series that it is based on, but I'm sure there are a good amount of changes for the M3/M4

The front suspension is not too different from the S550, but the rear uses multi-link with 5 hard hub mounting points. I am not sure if that is needed for a car this size and weight.

It looks like the rear frame section of the M4 has a kick up...

Advantage: Mustang...

5 Link in heavy, not Camaro 4.5 Link heavy but, it's heavy. The reason a kick up is required is due to the large cradle a multi-link needs.

Advantage: Unknown...

I need more info on both systems, both are relatively new in both. Front frame rail looks similar, I didn't know (or forgot) the M4 used a DBJ Mac P system...

I believe the E92 M3 has to use iron rear wheel hub because the hub has to be strong enough to support all five links. The advantage I think is the ride will be more compliant but people has said the E92 has lost some "feel" on the rear vs. the E46. Driving at high speed on the autobahn will expose these differences clearly. My guess is the Mustang rear will be a bit more lively, more communicative, but the M3/M4 will be more compliant and more isolated which seems to be the direction of BMW.

I think you have that backwards. The M3/4 has a solid mounted rear subframe with low compliance bushings. That's a lot of NVH given up in the name of performance.

Adding NVH into the rear helps balance the feel and feedback to the driver to match what they sense from the steering wheel.

The bulkhead/firewall looks asymmetrical? I thought all the sheet metal needs to be symmetrical for RHD LHD?

Nahh, I opted out of a M235i because of e-steering and got a 135is instead... waiting for the //M2
(or, Vette/Stang)

If the GT350 is indeed a turbo, (or even DFI) I will most likely be getting it... Unless, the M2 turns out to be quintessential BMW M stuff. In the meantime, I am pounding on this machine.

Saw some roof sections of the S550 at Rapid 2014 in Detroit. Schuyler makes the one piece integrated roof/ A puller. The gentleman I spoke with said not including added features. The chassis is light and much stronger than the SN197. Will post more when I am off the road.
