Hey everyone,

so I’ve been dealing with this problem for quite some time now. Earlier this year in January I got my front struts, strut mounts, and sway bar end links (adjustable pedders for end links) replaced with OEM. Then, in August I got my front lower and upper control arms replaced with OEM as well. Then in October, this year, I got new front tires (rear is fine)

problem: clunking sound is still happening. Needless to say I will be doing the alignment this week but the tires I was just talking about are wearing out in the inside; steering sways to the right or left depending on road conditions; living in San Diego with shit roads)

The mechanic I took the car to in January took a look at it again a couple times and said nothing was wrong except control arms and new tires which I took care of. The second mechanic when I got the control arms replaced which I took it back again for the clunking sound told me the suspension work that got done is not done well and needs to get replaced, again, not even a year later.

So I took it back to the first shop and they took it apart and said nothing was wrong but that with the lower springs (eibach 1.5”) I have with OEM struts will cause the car to have the clunking sound I keep hearing because of there’s play. now, my question is, is that true?

I honestly don’t know what else to do anymore. Every month I keep having a similar problem.
Any info or input would go such a long way because I am about done with car problems. This whole year has been that way and I’ve maintained it well and don’t drive it hard or spirited.

do you have camber plates?
also see if you can turn the top strut nut with minimal effort

So then the shop just doesn’t want to warranty the work then, and that’s what I suspected.

i don’t think I have camber plates? I have 0.5” spacers I believe; the top nut has been marked with blue paint marker and I looked at it last night and they haven’t moved. I do recall though that the last time I took it to the first shop the driver side top nut wasn’t torqued all the way but the passenger was. Which was when I decided to call the shop and tell them what happened. That’s kind of when they decided to take it apart and see if there was anything wrong with it.

the second shop he’s worked on ky previous car before on transmission (2014 Scion tc), and then with my slave master cylinder on the s550, oil pan gasket, control arms, and brakes. The first shop they’ve only done the suspension work.

Problem with the top strut nut is it moves with the spindle so a mark really won't help. I have to torque mine down about once a month. I get that noise over bumps it I dont

Do you lift the car and torque or do you do it when it’s on the ground? The first shop told me that it’ll keep spinning regardless which for some reason I didn’t believe because the passenger strut nut didn’t give me that problem.

Theoretically you're supposed to torque it down on the bench before you install back on the car, and check it again with the suspension loaded. You can try hitting it with an impact, or jack up the car and hold the shaft with vise grips and a rag. Just be careful not to score the shaft.
I had one strut nut that wouldn't budge and one that would spin also.

Looks like the entire front suspension is new. Maybe check what hasnt been replaced yet, like the tie rods?

Is this a PP car with the chassis bracing? If so I'd also check if they are tight, have had loose bracing (on a different car) cause noise before.

Yes this is a PP1. I haven’t done much to the car except as mentioned ^, I don’t believe it has a chassis bracing? I’m going to get it aligned today and see if that changes anything.

IMO I THINK YOU NEED A NEW MECHANIC, I HAVE THE SAME SET UP WITH NO ISSUES
Oh yeah I didn’t go back to them. They charge $250/hr for labor. Which is crazy work but I was new to the area and desperate to fix it.

You need to find another mustang guy and ask him who is his mechanic, and pray it's not the last guy you went too
